I can't really say that this is something I've given much thought to... but I suppose the root goes at the bottom

The tap root comes out of the pointy end. So when they grow naturally and they release there seeds a lot of them will land round end first and will still be fine. On my first grow I planted the seed straight in soil round end first and they all sprouted.
