hi all, i've just started off blueberry, orange bud & got 1 northern lights auto. they all been in veg for 1 week now but will need to repot soon, only vegging for 2 weeks. whats the best size of pots to buy ? been to look at pots in garden centre but there all in centimetres not litres so how do you know what ones to get ? also could someone tell me what sort of height the plants will grow to after veggin for 2 weeks then onto 12/12 to flower ? any advise welcome cheers.

On pot size there seems to be two schools of thought: (1) minimise stress by planting your seedling into its final pot which should be as large as your space allows; (2) get vigorous roots by repotting a few times using a slightly larger pot each time. Both methods work well so the choice is yours. Square pots are great space savers, you can get them from Greens. I know what you mean about centimetres v litres - it's maddening. Another reason to order from Greens.

Plants double or triple their height during flowering depending on strain. Fraid I don't know about yours.

I have used pots like those square ones and my plants all got rootbound and stretched like you wouldn't believe.
Next time I'll use 25-30 litre pots and hope to aviod rootbound.

something like this i think it goes
a centimeter is length and a liter or litre is volume (1000ml). If you want to find the volume of the dish, you multiply length by width by height to get cubic centimeters cm^3 or cc which is equal to ml and there are 1000 ml in a liter.
So your volume is 1452 cc or ml and that is 1.452 liters.

if you're only vegging for 2 weeks then 6.5l pots will suffice, if you did go ant bigger then 10l would be max for a two week veg, in the case of the auto 6.5 is loads!

i always use a gallon of soil for every foot the plants going to grow so if im going to grow 3ft plants i use 3 gallons of soil 3 gallons is like 13litres

the rule of thumb accoring to jorge' cervantes is a litre per month and imo he's a legend so as long as i accomodate for that i'm sweet!

So you finish in a 4litre pot when having 4wks veg?
Nonsense.
Potting up isn't an exact science and the plant determines as and when, you don't.

4 week veg and 8week flower = 12 L ?

I always finish in 6'5 - 10 l pots, I have a couple of grow dvds and the main man ( jorge ) says a litre per month is adequate for root growth and if you had a small space then i'd go with that! my biggest soil lady was 110g in a 6.5 and she was over 4 months when finished, it can be done in a small space is what i'm saying!

Sound mate. Was that 110g dry from the plant you speak of?

it was euforia ( hense the name ) and 3 weeks cured, I'm just adding another perspective. she was vegged for 38 days ( if i remember right? maybe 35 ) and flowered 9 weeks in soil ( all mix ) I'm not an expert but this is my 6th year growing ( always soil ) and i've had a few lovelys with a few more to follow!

I've never gone that small,l but download jorge's grow room dvd, he'll quote that bit. I have had great results from 6.5s though.

with auto's 6l pots are more than sufficient, some varietys can do there whole cycle in as little as 1.5 but if you have the room for 6ls then I'd use them.

Just to add here that I and many other 12/12 from seed growers use very small pots in our micro grows. I use just 1ltr of soil and bottom water to feed directly to the root mass, kind of passive hydro style. I have grown many strains by this method as well as the same strains conventionally in larger pots and have not found a noticeable difference in results to be honest. Remember that plants grown 12/12 from germination will throw down less of a root mass than plants grown with a few weeks veg time.

If you would care to check out my thread below you can see my method. Also pics of a brilliant example (not mine!) of a plant grown in a 16oz drinking cup that produced close on a solid OZ of dry bud. Its not all about pot size :-)

Scroll down on this page to see the 16oz cup results, we were discussing root mass in my thread.

very doable if you know what you are doing , not something i would advise a novice to try till they have a few grows behind them.

Well I got a blue mystic in a 15litre pot has been in the from being 5dayz old when my dog decided it looked nice sittin in a small pot so thought since he pulled her out of the soil it b best to repot to reduce any more stress, she's doin fine now tho, around 15cm tall maybe more now and she's only 26dayz old, in a organic soil and loving the tomato food and sugar she's havin served every few dayz, she's looking really healthy and lookin a nice light green with slightly darker edge's on each leaf, gettin her 1st 5 finger hand's growing in now also, she has 2 set's of 3fingered hand's so far and her rounded bottom leave's have dropped aswel, can't wait for her to grow so I can get planting another but I think I may have to invest in some better light's as I'm just using a 60W strip light and 2x 103W bulb's =o]
