Just found this little bugger on Ebay, Im so tempted to give them a try.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/225-LED-Red-Blue-Hydroponic-Grow-Board-Light-Bulbs-Lamp_W0QQitemZ250456885858QQcategoryZ43555QQcmdZVi ewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m8QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DMW%26it s%3DC%26itu%3DUCC%26otn%3D5%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D61 55075621121634578
I'd suggest not getting that one if you do go with LED...
"only 13.8 watts of power consumption per board" That's fuck all! Normally I think and LED board would use a lot more than that. LED's are not THAT energy efficent so basically this is gonna be outputing not much light for your money.
yeah mate, youd be better spending the 36quid on candles for the good that that panel is gonna do. 13.8w total is naff all. im tempted by leds too but id only go for one that uses minimum 2 watt leds. some firms are using 6 watt leds now and they are supposed to be comparable with hid.

Had a good look round and thinking about it now, I'll stick with HID.:)
Good call, the only people who say anything good about LEDs are the people who are selling them. LEDs make good pocket torches though.
Think I just stumbled across the exact same thing but on here http://www.fastlight.co.uk/acatalog/LED_Grow_Boards.html
So they arnt any good then? It says to use 4 to cover 1 square metre so I thought that would be good for my 1.2m tent.
I dont understand all the blue and red light stuff, are they saying that is all you would need to grow with?
Was tempted till I read this thread. :(

blue foir veg and red for flowering..both blue and red panels is a dual spec board..you can just use the dual one throughout the grow but leds are not that good for flowering..not enough watts..

If you read the blurb it states 80% more efficient watt per watt - each panel is 13.8W so if they were twice as efficient to equal a 400W HPS you would need 200W of LED panels, but as they are stating 80% that 220W which is 16 panels.
each panel is 30*30 so if you have a 1.2M * 1.2M tent then 4 will fit along each side.
You wouldn't fit them to the door & there's no point in lighting the corners of your tent so if we say 3 per side = 9 per 30cm height - two rows of 9 = 60cm height and 18 panels. £35 * 18 = £630.
LED's = bag of shit - CFL or HID all the way....
A Blue one might be good for a cutting box or germinating some seeds as you could have it almost touching the leaves and almost no heat output.

Some folks get great results for 360w and 400w grow LED sets though, I'm not sure that LED should be dismissed for summer times. I'm trying to find info in my links about a 360W LED American made panel that has 3W leds instead of the usual 1.5. I was reading about a while back but winter came and I decided HPS all the way!
Can't find the sodding thing now but it stuck out as a easy grow method for summer or small needs percy growing.
LED's can work now but u be spending a few hundred, u want 300 + one with at least 2 w not 1 w LEDs to get comparable results with HID.:)

Just to echo everybody's sentiments here, and my experience too:
DO NOT BUY THOSE LEDs!
