depends how big your container is ,but as a rule one plant one pot.

keep it to one per quite big pot autos really find being repotted stressful whilst there growing! :)

One plant per 8.5 Litre pot should do nicely....

So would putting say 4 in 1 25 liter pot be a bad idea if i planted them at the sides of the pot?

Depends on the dimensions of the pot - I have 4 autos in 8.5L pots and they're equally spaced in a 80*80*160 tent and from above you cannot see the floor of the tent anymore and I'm not quite half-way throught the grow - so each plant is filling a 40*40 area.

i guess it depends on the auto aswell - i was thinking something from the joint doctor i found that quality to be great, and they dont really get that big say like 12-16 inches

Keep one per 4-10 litre pot. some, such as auto lemon skunk, have very vigorous root growth.
