Do we have any boxing fans on the forum?

I am a passivest I can assure you but I am a member of my local boxing club now. I am relatively new therefore not very good and today I took a bit of a beating but then I guess that's to be expected. I mainly do it for fitness purposes and to be able to defend myself if ever I am in a sticky situation.

Anybody else take an interest?

I'm tempted to take up Western boxing for fitness and fun and because I do have a lot of respect for it but...
At the moment, I'm just an Eastern boxer! :D

theirs not many trainers that would put an unexpeienced fighter in the ring,so that tells me your in the wrong place.go somwhere where the trainer is going to warm you up and get you into it,u cant just jump in the ring and fight it takes time,u have to be proper fit to do martial arts or boxing espesialy when sparring,so what the so called trainer was doing was imbarrasing u or trying to, to make his other fighters fell good about themselfs.dont worry tho youl get their.in our club if you take a day off you gona get put in the ring with their best and fittest and if u had a day off u aint the fittest lol,500 sit ups a day is the way

I boxed from a very young age (about 6 years old). I lived next door to the guy who ran the local boxing gym. I stopped in 2001 because at the age of 30 it was starting to hurt. I had 69 amateur fights and won 61. During all of this I never even got a broken nose.

The other month I was asked by a neighbour to join his 5 a side football team. I agreed and went to the first game. Within the first 10 minutes I fell badly in a tackle. I then had to go in goal. The following morning I could not move my knee. I went to A and E. They told me I have a ruptured cruciate (fter MRIs etc) and I am waiting for an operation.

Boxing is extremely safe....football is extremely dangerous.

Any boxers i know do not fight outside the ring . They dont have nothing to prove it seems and they are normally the last people to beat up people .

Usually a weaker pearson would kick and beat a easy target to prove they are tough , A boxer knows hes tough

The rave scene kicking of 1990 ended all my intrest in boxing and fooball for the next 7 years on lol .
Plus Tyson got put in jail and there was no boxing worth watching making ya want to box.

Somtimes i wish i stuck at it , Its the best sport about to get young people involed in . I think if more took up boxing there would be less people gettin kicked and beat to death on the streets .

It's all respective to the individual, a friend of mine has been in court with a highly ranked amateur boxer over an assault charge.
The boxer is a well known local bully...

Sometimes I think teaching cunts to box isn't the best idea. I'd rather have the numptys coming in windmilling! :p

Sorry to hear about your friend mum . Ya get those assholes in every working places and schools its usually to do with family love or other negitive feelings they have inside makes them do this . A very small % of boxers would do this , Any time i had a fight or spare after it we would both shake hands and most times became friends . ( Unless i took a beating lol )
Any real boxer will tell you all fighters have full respect about there fighting .
Somtimes people act funny with any sort of par .

Out of the great pro boxers through out . There has only been two boxers that i can think of who where bullys or pure animals if ya want . Mike tyson and Jack Dempsy. Mybe the two best ever boxers but both animals inside an out of the ring .Both boxers had fucked up childhoods i dunno if thats the reason people turn this way or not
The bullys and thugs in my area that act like that normally have nothing else in there life . Boxing would usually teach them to use controled aggression somtimes thou people are just groomed to be agressive animals and no matter what they do in life they will have that trouble .

Football players i think have the worst rep in any sport .

Because they're a bunch of jumped up spoilt lady-boy brats that need to realise that all they do with their life is kick a ball around a field.

And don't worry about my friend, he's my senior at Wing Chun... Splatted the guys nose then held on to him until the bacon arrived. Said it was probably the hardest few punches he'd ever worn though. I wouldn't have fancied it. :p

holyfield, benn , eubank , collins, toney , jones jr , cesar chavez - no boxing in the 90s worth watching ? you must be joking . fair enough it wasnt a golden age but there were still some all time classic fights.

benn vs mclellan - tragic what happened but what a fight that was

Agree with bergkamp (man that was hard to say - sour grapes cos we're in div 1). The 90s was great for boxing. Kahn and and the other olympic fella who keeps losing (forgot his name - not suprising) - oh yeah, "orderly" Harrison - they can't even take a punch - just try and look fancy with their feet and clothes and all that shitty bling that could save a 1000 lives in DR Congo. Haven't watched boxing seriously since Nigel Benn retired, except woodie. I personnaly think british boxers nowadays are as bad as footballers - all part of the x-factor gen - makes the MTV gen look hard working. At least Ali was locked up for a political protest, not some drunken brawl in spain, and at least he got out and won his fight. Agree, that footballers are still worse - I'm a Leeds supporter (diffiicult to say fan nowadays), so I know all about yobs and overpaid ***ts, but I'm seeing the western version of this disciplined martial art going the same way. Rant over.

I agree they had good fights between them benn v eubank v collins ect . british boxing is like pub brawling . Collins was the best of the lot .

But once they fought any 1 that could box that was there job gone .Eubank, Bruno, Hatten, Nassem , khan . They were all great beating nobodys and getting hyped up by the daily star .

There has only been two great boxers from this side of the world Benny Lynch (Scoland) And Rinty Monaghan (Irish) . PLenty of great fights just not many good boxers
I would have put henry Cooper here but i feel he just got a lucky punch

I think the 1980s was the last of the great fighters tyson , sugar ray , Hernes , Roberto Duran , marvin hagler , all on bbc lol and no flying into the ring on magic carpits or any of that nonsence

I dont think there is one boxer from the 1990s that will be rememberd the way the legends of the past are

I suppose it the year your from my granda will tell me boxings never been the same from the brown bombers time . I,ll tell mines its never been the same from tyson . I hope no 1 pases on chris eubank for the 1990s lol

i agree with what you say on the 80's . they were definately better but the nineties were miles ahead of what we`ve had so far this decade.
and i know what you say about pub brawls but when you get a good one there is nothing better than watching a mad slugfest
kelly vs hamed
benn vs mclellan
benn vs eubank
Gatti vs. Robinson

its great to watch someone like winky wrights skills but it dont get me on the edge of my seat and shouting at the tele like 2 blokes punching the shit out of each other in a all out battle of blood and guts.

I've always been a big boxing fan, but in the last 10-15 years i've moved (progressed) onto UFC and similar. - Much more exciting, better fights and loads more 'characters'. It's easy to see why it is now officially, the biggest growing sport in the world and sells more tickets worldwide than any boxing events.
I still love a good boxing bout and occasionally there are some crackers, but MMA is taking over.

Just my opinion of course. ;)

British boxing was good in the 90,s m8 i remember watching and cheering on the Benn v mc clennan fight and i wanted benn to kick his ass .

Then when i watched the interview 15 years on and seen him with no money or friends in a care home half deaf with brain damage the blood drained from me and i when white and was sick . to be honest it put me off boxing

What makes it worse is the way they left him to rot to save boxing because of the eubank watson fight a few years before then this . It was kept very low key and not many people know of mccellen

That fight reminded me of Herns and hagler that was mybe the best fight ive watched .

I did watch it but Hatton will be Pacquiao. I am not just being patriotic. Pacquiao did not have the power to knock out Dela Hoya. Dela Hoya had worn himself out getting to the weight and he was ring rusty. Pacquiao will not bother Hatton. Ricky will just walk through his puches and remeber Hatton has the power. Dela Hoya only really connected with Pacquiao 4 or 5 times. Hatton will be a lot more accurate.

I cant see Hatton beating pacman eather , I can see Hatton being wide open to Manny,s speed.

If any one remembers Eamon magee (After his kneecaping ) v Hatton he went down in the 1st round by a single punch and mayweather hit him on the same spot and sent him to the floor also i think its going to be a very hard fight for ricky .

One thing is for sure it will be such a fight i cant wait

I think floyde mayweather is the man to put in the ring with pac man Both ricky and de la hoya found it nearly impossable to hit him .

I think that would be the fight of the decade ..

Just one thing is on my mind about manny pacman is that de la hoya was well past his peek so he hasent been tested properly yet .

but the fight is won long before you step into the ring, the fight is won when your out at night jogging or in the gym working

I'm a big fan of Boxing. Getting ready to go to Hatton/Pacquiao in Vegas. Can't wait. Went to Mayweather/Hatton and had a great time. Was rooting for Rickey but we know how that turned out. One thing I enjoyed was the fans that came over for the fight. They were singing the Ricky Hatton song before, during, and after the fight. It was cool cause there's nothing like that over here. I was looking at pictures a couple of days later and was suprised to see my friend and I on the front page of the daily mail. (a crowd shot but I could easily spot us).

I try to get to 2 or 3 major fights a year and watch pretty much everything they televise over here.

I watch a lot of boxing and boxed up until the smoking started hehe (early). However I love to watch a good fight and admire good fighters.Im wondering who peoples favourite fighters (of the last 20 years say so as to avoid the obvious choices) and their favourite fights?
One name Im a bit sad to see missing from the 90s chatter is of course Watson, I know its maybe a bit taboo but I still give him his dues.
Best fighter I have ever seen IMO is Tyson at his best in and around 1990.I believe he would have been the worlds best if managed properly.(both in and out of the ring).Loved his style he changed heavyweight boxing at that time IMO he was mobile fearless good chin and feet.It was the first time I saw a heavyweight in my lifetime that other heavyweights didnt want to let get close to them at all.
Best fight I have ever seen?Hmmm so many to choose from but at the time 1989 I remember being amazed by Roberto Duran v Iran Barkley an amazing fight which seemd to be going either way at times. At 38 (i think) Duran baffled the critics with an amazing display probably the best performance IMO by a fighter labelled "past it" by the critics.Love to hear peoples faves or opinions.

Fancy Pacman to KO Mayweather hope he does too Floyd is a cocky mofo, Pacman is actually one of my favs all out fast attack and his punches are rock solid. Always liked Lennox Lewis he was the man especially when he knocked fuck out of Tyson, Calzaghe was amazing too, very cocky used to do a little dance and get in the opponents face big time. Froch was good the other week KO'ing Taylor in the 12th, Kessler is lined up next Froch will lose to Kessler as he gave Calzaghe a good go. Khan is good gets a lot of stick but he destroyed Barrera only thing is he has a glass jaw as Prescott showed when he floored him.

Ii like Hatton but he is just a good fighter not a great one as Pacman showed was too easy for him in the end..:cowboy:

Yeah, I agree with a lot of what you say... but Pac aint beating Floyd, no way. Pac is everything you say he is, I think he is great, but against Floyd you have him against a prime, bigger, defensive wizard.

Calzaghe one of my favorites, Froch Kessler looks good on paper, but most think Kessler will just have too much, I'm not so sure, could be a great fight.
