tiny little setup trying to limit electric to £1/week, 2x125w cfl's in constant use for almost 30,000 hours, cheap organic vegetable fertiliser used rarely :smokie:

Sweet, what is the big one?

Looks awesome for cfl.

you running 24/0 then?

Plutopete
08-02-11, 10:31 PM
Thanks, they are all my own strain, the biggest is the oldest at about 7 weeks.
I've had the same bulbs on 24/0 for about 3 years with no drop in yield, i think they last longer when they are on all the time and the limited reach is plenty for autos

Hey Plutopete

Great pics. That's a fantastic result for a 2 litre pot size. Have you had any probs with the roots?

Are you using both blue and red light spectrum CFL's or both of the same spectrum?

Plutopete
09-02-11, 10:02 AM
i sit the bottles in clay balls so the roots can still grow, but they mostly stay in the bottles. I use both colours of cfl only because thats what i bought years ago and they're still going, I'll probably replace just with the red when i get more.

What a great little budget grow - shows what can be done without shelling out ££££s on equipment :)

The only thing I would say is that painting or tapeing the bottom of the bottles may be beneficial for the roots but as you have been doing your growing for so long I assume you have already played with the idea?

Plutopete
09-02-11, 05:50 PM
I was worried about light affecting the roots, and i covered some bottles in black tape, but it made no difference in the end so i abandoned the idea :)

was wondering about these new air pots.the ones with lots of funnel holes all over the pots. i know roots need air heat moisture and food but do u think if i put loads of holes in a coke bottle and cover or paint them would they work better than standard pots. nice lokin plants mate. keep up the good work

Hi, ime looking into a small grow with auto seeds, when you say thier your own strain ,what are they based on, what would you say they are comparable to commercialy available strains?, that large one is looking great btw, well done youve given me hope for the small space i have available.

Plutopete
10-02-11, 03:48 PM
The strain was a cross between a local non auto with kush heritage and one of the lowrider strains, only the offspring with auto traits were kept and bred and now they are always auto :)
I don't know what commercial strains might be similar, but if theres a Hindu kush auto out there I think that would be close :)

looks killer :)

How do you work your perpetual?

What was the AF used in the original cross?

Plutopete
14-02-11, 09:22 AM
My perpetual method is pretty simple, when I have a space I plant a seed :) Every so often I'll keep a male and pollinate a female for seed, the seeds have a high female to male ratio, I plan for 50% but it's about 70%-80% females :) I have 2 x 125w cfl's so they are individually raised or lowered depending on needs. You can see in the pic that tops are put back on the bottles to make mini greenhouses for the seeds to sprout.
I'm not sure exactly which AF was used in the original cross other than it came from Joint Doctor, I think it may have been a lowrider or lowrider 2 because I don't think there was much else available back then.

very nice mate, inform us what the dry weights are :)

Plutopete
20-02-11, 03:20 AM
Well, they're dry :)
My stepdaughter nicked my scales years ago so i've been puzzling over how to weigh them. In the end i fabricated a balance out of 2 bags, a brass rod, and a handful of coppers :)
now i know 2p's are approx 7g and 1p's 3.5g but what does a 5p weigh?
anyway the first was almost 21g, the second just over 14g and the third just under 14g, so just under an ounce and three quarters in total using very basic scales :)
I've never actually worked out how many plants per month i get from my little cupboard, so this thread and the pics will help me keep track, i've got 4 confirmed ladies flowering away now and 2 males have been disposed of :)

good work pete, they look really nice anyway.

Love the ingenuity of the home made scale., I knew the same info about the weight of 1p's and 2p's but i don't know what a 5p weighs either.

You've probably grown some of the cheapest weed around here.. so big props to you mate :)

M_C
20-02-11, 04:53 PM
I'm really impressed with your setup, I think I can learn a thing or two myself :D

But:-
To answer your question..

1p - 3.56g
2p - 7.12g
5p - 3.25g
10p - 6.5g
20p - 5.0g
50p - 8.0g
£1 - 9.5 g
£2 - 12.0g

Hope that helps...

Still only 4 ladies, but a few seedlings about to show :)
https://www.thctalk.com/gallery/data/2040/medium/001275.JPG
2 of the ladies are exactly the same age so I've been experimenting with pruning the big leaves off one to see what difference it makes and already it seems to have stimulated more bud growth than the unpruned sister

Its when I see threads like this I think to myself is a tent, in a closet, with a electric guzzling 600w HPS light, a noisy fan to keep it cool is it all worth it when growing autos? I look at this thread and its just awesome, re using waste pop bottles, basic lighting, and a couple of those plants looks on par with what i got from my last auto. If your growing percy weed and can keep a cycle going with costs down, then if you can yield an ounce dry from each plant then your onto a winner in my eyes. Its when you pay out £200 - £300 on a proper setup, £10 a week on electric to yield maybe 5 ounce from 5 autos like some do, it makes you wonder whether is there any point having a proper setup for autos as they seem to grow anywhere and under any light. Will see what i get from my 2nd auto grow in a proper setup but would also like to try one like this. :)

If your results are as Plutopete's then I have failed as a mentor to you....

Plutopete ran a perpetual grow, harvesting on a monthly basis so it was low yield, high turn around - rather than must of us who aim for the opposite

Hi mate, yes, I've done it. I hold the current 2L Pepsi Challenge title, I had about 2 oz from her...

I often get autos in the veg tent to bump a harvest now. Fuck all wrong with 2ltr bottles either.

Hi I know this is an old thread but I'm interested to find out if anyone is currently using this technique? I'm thinking of doing this but with 5 litre bottles, a 400w hps and old timers in the hope that I'll yield slightly bigger crops. I've just started a photo grow but I might scrap it and copy this dude lol
