Default How accurate are manufacturers feeding schedules?

Basically as the title says, how accurate have people found the feeding schedules on the nutrient bottles to be compared to what you believe is the optimum food?

I always followed the instructions but I've now got the confidence to experiment and mine are doing fine on a very weak feed (1ml per liter) every watering. I think the schedules are a bit overstated but that's just marketing. It also depends on the strain, some strains are really hungry and some get by on next to nothing so best investigate what your gonna grow before you work out a menu for them.
