Default light escape is it an issue?

    Hey guys,

There are 2 plants growing in a bedroom within a grow tent, currently lit up with a 125w CFL soon to be switched over to HPS. When I come home this evening my flatmate was tending to the plants and I noticed a colour difference from the street between the lounge and the bedroom. The bedroom looked like daylight and the lounge had a warm tint to it.

    My questions are:

Is this a dead give away? and what measures can I take to prevent light leaking into the street when the tent is open during lights out? The blinds were down and the light was leaking from around the edges.

    Sweet

    Jonny

Would only opening the tent during daylight hours reduce the risk without spending any/to much money.

i use curtains rolled around the edges so theres no gap, also on top of the rail.
theres this material used for making roller blinds,
great stuff totally lightproof,so my window outside looks like a standard window and behind its totally shut off.

you can check them during lights off if you use a green torch/bulb(it don't affect the plant)

or do it with lights on,during the day if possible(curtains, etc closed)

Thank you both, the lights are off between 11:00 and 17:00 so we should be ok checking first thing in the morning or early evening although maybe not new winter is approaching.

Frosting or tints is a no go for me as it would make the windows look odd if it was to heavy, I will have a look into some heavy curtains to go behind the blinds in the hope to block the light around the window.

    Thanks again.

Noted, I'm just like everyone else only spend what is neccacery, will take the advice and check out some heavy curtains or that roller blind material you mentioned.

The other option would it be wise to turn the lights off while the tent is open then there is 0 risk of light leak, Will that hurt the plant for 5 mins of lower light during their daylight time.

hps lights and mh need a chill period when there switched off,
15-30 mins and you can put it on again otherwise they flicker ,
cfls are fine to turn back on straight away.
just turn the room light on then turn your tent light out and open the tent
