    Default Super Silent Ruck 200L

Afternoon folks, well I've been doing a spot of DIY this afternoon In preparation for starting a new grow.
Today I have been sorting the ventilation installation which consist of a RK200L Ruck Fan (200mm/8 inch) - 1110m3/h and a 200x600 Rhino Pro Carbon Filter 1125m3/h

This is going in a 1.5m x 1.5m x 2.0 Green room tent (good fuckin tent by the way)
Unpacked the fan and quickly wired it up for a dry run, fuck me this thing sounds like an Apache helicopter so I have a plan, I'm gonna build a silencer box in a bid to reduce the db output.

Went for a rummage in the shed and managed to find some off cuts of 18mm Mdf and some chipboard.
Spotted a couple of old cushions I was meaning to chuck out so grabbed them as well. After around an hour managed to get all the pieces for the box cut to size 20 inches square with 8" holes cut out on 2 sides to receive the 200mm duct. Im gonna use the stuffing from the cushions to pack round the fan.

Anyway heres a few pics of a very productive afternoon, job completed and I have to say this setup is super silent.
You could hear a mouse fart in there now and thats with the fan running at full tilt, happy days.

Thanks for looking folks, hope your all enjoying the weekend.

    Regards BL

if you get some ACOUSTIC MINERAL WOOL - DENSE FIBRE MATTING and line the inside of the box should shut it up forever the thicker it is the more db it will block out goes to 140kg or 100mm thick.

    http://www.customaudiodesigns.co.uk/...neral-wool.htm

also put some rubber door stops on the bottom of the box so you decouple it from the loft floor should sort out any vibration from the fan as well

Just saved me £100 sheets mate. I had planned on a 8 inch tornado acoustic, instead I will now save £100 by buying the 8 inch RVKL1 instead. Exactly same set up as me including the hole in ceiling

    Nice on Bud.

    Nice on Bud.
Cool mate... Straight into the chimney this one goes, just zipped up the tent and dropped a smoke pellet in there.
Works like a charm mate, Just blasted some expanding foam round the duct where is goes into the brickwork, thats it job finished.

Another plus with this setup is, it trickle vents with the fan off due to (stack effect) through the chimney.

You want acoustic mineral slabs with a density greater than 36

Isover CWS 32 are the best - 32 density slabs used in the building trade for your full cavity fill. Dont buy acoustic partion rolls - there shite and only 12 density. Or if you can get hold of Ultimate ( marine insulation ) then wrap the wife in it and you will never hear her again

How quiet is it next to the box Bud? I don't have an attic to put my fan in, it's got to be right there in my bedsit!
I have an airvent handy behind the wardrobe, no problem there but acoustics are a bit of a challenge......
The construction of a solid wooden box seems highly effective, I'll have to consider that even though I'd almost certainly saw my own thumbs off. By contrast your craftmanship is most elegant.
I'm gonna get a 5" RVK fan I reckon, LBN reckons they're quieter than Rucks these days. LittleMissBlue got a Ruck and was traumatized by the volume untill she doused the fucker in expanding foam.
Thanks for another happy noise-reduction tale, I need all the encouragement I can get!

Just occurs to me that I should be thinking seriously about burying my fan in sand. I realise this is dodgy stuff to have near an electrical motor, if it should get into the bearings or whatever, I'll have to look to that, but it should be even more effective than foam -- and I can use that as well as an auxillary barrier. Anyone have any thoughts?

I guess sand could work in a box,Id be covering the fan over first tho like people do before injecting expanding foam, how about a few inches of sand at the bottom only topped up with a couple of accoustic slabs? Im thinking some memory foam aswell, great how your mind goes into overdrive stoned eh! Feck it! I,ll probally just use old pillows and clothes....maybe!
