To make the holes you can use a wholesaw attachment for combidrills but for that size will need to have a decent drill or you coudld use an sds drill or you could use a handsaw to keep simple just drill holes in first to get started or a jigsaw hehe

My saw is a hacksaw blade. No frame. Just a blade. And I've done endless amounts of diy with it. Takes a while, cramps the hand, but it actually works.

Hey bud great idea I'm doing this tomorrow, do you think it would make much difference if I used 50mm celotex insulation boards? I have my current tent made with a wooden frame and 12mm plasterboard but it's quite ineffective would you think if I remade my tent using insulation boards there would be much difference in the noise? I really want to try a hydro system but as it is it would be too loud as my walls to next door are very thin.
    Thanks

Thank you Bud for this thread, here's my effort, its a bit over kill for the size of fan but I'm determined the misses is not gonna moan about the hum. It about 60cm by 60cm square, using 18mm mdf. I'm going to line the bottom with a thick layer of carpet and put rock wool round the fan then carpet on top... if that don't work, I might get permission for that up grade i would like
