You could fit the fan and filter in an air tight box outside the groom and draw the air that way

So it would go, Groom, duct, box with fan and filter, duct, out.

    Hope this helps.
There's a thread on this site that explains it a lot clearer

Thanks mate. That's quality. A bit much for me here though...I'll remember it if I get sound problems.

Yes but it also allows for the fan and filter to be mounted outside of the groom

OK, so I went for it today and did the hole cutting thing...
I'm actually quite proud of myself, as I'd never tried anything like this before. Wood & drills are not my thing at all.

Here's how I cut the holes in the shelf:

I'm going to put covers on 2 of the holes (so I can open and close them if need be). The middle hole will stay as I can use it to put wires through etc. (oh, and I accidentally put them too close together, so a vent won't fit :/ )

I then cut a hole in the side for the ducting to vent out of.
Oh and also a little one in the back so I can put the extension lead through...Any tips on filling that hole anyone?

So here's what my filter looks like above that shelf, in the top compartment. (I'm going to buy a vent with a flange to attach to the ducting, rather than have the ducting coming out of the hole).

Could you not hang the filter vertical in the corner to take less space and have the fan in the top just drill holes for the ducting.

Woops too late already fixed it.

Get some silicone sealant for the hole buddy

I have put all the plugs and the ballast in the top compartment, along with the fan/filter so there is plenty of room in the grow space

I fed the only 2 wires through the hole. The wires are for the light and the clip fan (I'll have more on my next grow as it's NFT)

I forgot to cut something for intake, so I did this quickly...Unfortunately, I didn't think about light coming in from the vent. Gonna need some tips please guys, how I can stop light venturing in through here...

I used that sticky backed "P" shaped rubber door seal stuff and it worked a treat on the doors. Although, as the doors are slightly out of alignment, I have to take care closing them to ensure no gaps.
I didn't buy enough seal though Grrrr.
