Fairly old thread but this is the one that made me want to join the forum. I've just done my first defoliation and look forward to seeing the bounce back. First time grower but a bit of a green thumb and good coaching. Watching so many successful private growers defoliate and then seeing top commercial growers do the same, I'm not sure how there is even still a debate. Thank you Circle for sharing your knowledge and showing a good run of pictures.

    Cheers,
    B

Yeah this thread was very controversial when it was first posted, now I think it's a relatively well accepted method of growing.

Very good. So what's the big stinky topic to argue over now? I don't have much of an argumentative side, but I do have a bucket of popcorn and some free time before my next meeting.

I am also a fan of defoliation ... extreme defoliation. I started out of necessity in a SOG that had too many leaves that caused a bad air circulation, then I realized that my yield went up by about 30%.

I do monster cropping, a week before 12/12 I do lollipopping in the center of the plant to clean up a little erratic growth of monster cropping, then from the tenth day 12/12 I start cutting the fan leaves that cover bud sites, then 4 in 4 days I do a cleaning and I only stop at the end week 4, my goal is to expose all bud sites and make sure that some direct light reaches the soil, the air circulation is also much better which allows to increase the yield without bud rotting.

look up photosynthesis, and realise the error of your ways......

i have ben known to remove the little wispy shit under the canopy which will not amount to any serious buds , and the lower leaves in a lollipop fashion, but apart from the odd fan leaf blocking a bud site up top, i dont remove anything.
The plants need them, they are the plants "solar panels" to promote growth etc...
ive seen loads of mainlining threads with folks asking why theitr plants aint growing...face palm, there is no foliage thats why.....

Well said BBBB - too many people just want to remove leaves without understanding what they are doing....
