I had a new meter fitted 3 weeks ago, a standard one as my old meter was past expiry! So should be good for at least 5 years

i wont be letting them in to fit a smart meter.. but i was thinking of changing elecy companies as im on the pay as you go crap and im getting but raped on the price of the electric.. thanks for this thread though as now i can ask a prospective new supplier if they are planning on fitting a smart meter. Theres info online about turning these people away if they want to fit one. any one who is opposed to it should look it up... i don't answer the door to any goons no ones checked the meter in 2 years now.

every house in the country (uk) will have to have a smart meter installed in the next couple of years, I think this was a government initiative so you cant refuse after the date they specified. I got new gas and electric meters fitted 2 weeks ago and had to have the smart meter fitted. at least I know how much money it costs me daily £8 ffs but I have 2 600w hps and 1 400w mh 3 fans and I breed reptiles which use about another kw sow we will have to get used to big brother watching us unfortunately.

I agree totally, it's not in the electricity boards Interest to bust growers, we help pay their wages at the end of the day.

Them smart meters are stupid and will only lead to a new breed of people hacking at them. I'd imagine you'd only need the right equipment and a tool called wireshark to sniff the data. After that who knows what could be achieved. I think the smart meters are for data purposes which company's pay millions for. Hopefully by then growing will finally be legal and we won't have to worry

Smart meters will not stop me growing. My mates fish tank pulls more KW per hr than my whole set up according to him..

Not sure I follow the argument that having one kind of meter over another is going to make any difference to growing at home. How would a smart system differentiate between a PC gamer running dual card graphics and a over clocked system that requires a 1600W power supply and that of a 1000W light system and extractor fan?
