2020, they will probably become compulsory... depending on how the roll out goes...

But, TBH, I can see zero benefit to having one - but a lot of drawbacks

    Well... drawbacks...!

How about they can reduce the power you receive, or turn it off completely from the comfort of their office desk?

How about they can be hacked? - the software to do it is easily available with just a quick google search

Smart meters also reduce costs for the energy companies as they won't need meter readers (but will you have that saving passed down? - Of course not!) so it puts people out of work

I'd be interested if anyone could give me any benefits to having one... & being able to see your consumption at a glance isn't a benefit as anyone can do the math required, it's not hard!

My attitude to surveys is that if they pay me for my time I will complete them... but I don't do unpaid work for companies that are making £millions profit!

What annoys me is this constant push of inherently insecure technology. Whilst I'm a good boy these days, 12 year ago I would have been hacking them just for lulz

Progression is when something is better. I'm yet to find a benefit of these compared to the old, safe, reliable, unhackable meters

I don't use mobile phones and just cannot understand how people got them and all the new stuff we get bombarded with so much, just progress like it or not, we all know what we know what we don't know must be very scary indeed.
