Hi everyone, I've been asked by British Green to put pen to virtual paper about something that I personally believe should be drilled into all of us as we learn to grow. And yet I knew not!
Simply put it's an effective tool and an additional means of controlling the unwanted odour created during the chopping and trimming process. By using this technique it will allow you to effectively deal with the trials and tribulations that come as part and parcel of being a personal grower.
Chop day for for a personal grower means slotting it into our already hectic daily lives. Normal things like picking the kids up, making meals, walking the dog, even answering the door to sign for a parcel can be a tremendous pain in the arse on chop day. And let's face it reeking of weed is only going to increase the chances of being noticed and we don't want that do we.
Now whatever the weather, you can deal with it calmly, effectively and most importantly of all, safely.
The primary concept being introducing here today (for BG) is the utilisation of negative air pressure to draw the fragrant air into the tent or grow rooms sealed environment in order for it to be scrubbed and vented via the carbon filter that you're already using.
Equipment
2 buckets
A comfortable chair
Disposable gloves
Disposable overalls,
Quality spring loaded scissors
Hand sanitiser and or alcohol wipes.
Net drying rack.
Yo-Yo's (optional)
Technique
Get dressed in your sexy new clobber and sit opposite the tent with the two buckets between your legs.
Open the tents zips at a level that's most comfortable to you while you're in the seated position that you'll be trimming in.
Adjust the level of air flow by increasing the speed of your exhaust fan so that the tent bellows in.
Ensure adequate air is flowing in through the tents now open mouth.
Keep the branches and buds etc within close proximity of the tents opening as you trim. I believe I had mine open around 12 inches wide and it worked fantastically, but it will depend on the amount of airflow your extraction fan moves so be sure to set it to a level that will maintain negative pressure with the zips remaining open.
Clip off waste such as the stem, fan leafs and general superfluous plant matter into the first bucket, remembering to hold the stems and not the buds themselves so as to avoid damaging the delicate trichomes.
Repeat the same procedure over the second bucket, this time shedding any quality trim and popcorn buds, these can be used to later to make hash, canna butter, tinctures etc. This is all collected together at this point in the bucket and laid out on the mesh drying rack later.
All that should remain now is the quality trimmed buds which should be left attached to their branches to ensure a slow and even drying takes place over the next 5 – 14 days. After that they can just be snipped off over open clip top preserving jars ready for curing.
You can tell when they're dry enough by bending the branches, if they snap then they're ready for jarring.
Personally I trim one branch at a time, working through in the manner listed above. After that I just hook them onto yo-yo's which I leave attached on the open section of tent and it works like a lo-tek automated hanging system. I just unhook a yo-yo from the tent flap, attach it to the trimmed branch, release and off they whizz into their finished drying position where they stay in the dark for anywhere between 5 to 14 days depending on the size of the buds, slow drying like this causes the least amount of cannabinoid degradation.
I leave mine at least 14 days now as I've found that the chloryphyl can take that long to fully degrade and break down. Smoking weed high in chloryphyl can give you a nasty headache and can often has a nasty minty taste.
As a side note, air flow should remain constant throughout the drying process but fans must never be allowed to blow directly over the harvest.
Ideal Temperatures should be between 15.6 – 21.1 degrees celses with a humidity level of 50%. 45-55% being an acceptable variance.
Oh and the hand sanitisers used to de gunk your fingers n shit
Be safe and keep high `peeps One love n shit
