Sad to see this country struggling
Kruijff, Michels, Rexach, Bergkamp, legendary Dutch threesome in Milan - all these great personalities had massive infuence on football evolution

On my last trip to Amsterdam 6 yrs ago,my wife and I took a side trip to Zanvoort and yes we were asked for ID. It was weird at first, but at the time, I believe they were cracking down on tourists from bordering countries. This was not the case in Amsterdam. One thing that I did learn in talking to some locals. They hate when the first questions about Holland have to do with coffee shops. The locals don't want Amsterdam famous for pot, it is just a way of life and so many tourist overlook the culture and history. When they go home, They talk of coffee shops and red light districts, that would be like people saying Canada is famous for Tim Hortons. My wife and I are planning a trip of a lifetime, thru Europe, to happen in the next 5 years. I look forward to returning and spending at least a week. Holland is so beautiful and the engineering to create the country is just amazing. As for the food skeptics, a stop at "all-stars" for a meal might change your mind. The schnitzel was amazing. Can't wait to return. I strongly recommend Rick Steves Utube videos to learn come local culture to anyone planning a trip. In 91, I was amazed when I travelled there for the first time. Being Canadian sure helped in making friends and I was treated very well everyplace I went. It was nice to talk to people and get told the stories when the Canadian forces came to town. In 2012 I still felt very welcome as a Canadian travelling in their great city. I would be quite interested to here about your travels when you return, Venturing thru the rest of Holland is something we want to do but alas can only pick a couple towns as there is a lot in Europe to see.

I read that Amsterdam legally reduced the number of tourist groups in the red light district. It disturbed the residents. I remember what I thought then - these guys have eggs)
