So a bit of background. I used to be a complete pot head in my twenties, stupidly stopped 18 years ago to keep the missus happy and decided to abuse alcohol instead. That did me no good so my good lady suggested I go back to smoking weed (Yay! What a woman!) and so I quit drinking 4 months ago and have never been happier. So now instead of paying a fortune for average weed she has agreed to let me do a bit of gardening especially as it helps me so much with back pain
My grow room is all set up now and the legend that is M_C has agreed to mentor my first grow as it is a similar space to his setup.
Grow room is an ex boiler cupboard upstairs and heat issues are a problem here but it's the only place I can effectively grow discreetly. Ambient temps are about 22/23c.
Equipment
400w lumatek dimmable ballast and 400w dual spectrum lamp in cool tube
6inch Rhino thermostatic extract in loft pulling air through cooltube and 4 inch Rhino Pro filter (will upgrade to 6 inch in future)
4 inch tt fan in loft for inlet
Oscillating fan and humidifier
Seeds and stuff
2 WW x BB
1l, 3l, and 15l air pots for potting up
Verve multipurpose compost
Perlite
Dolomite lime
Will buy nutes further down the line when needed but hopefully potting up should see me through most of the vegging.
I jumped the gun a bit and started to germinate my seeds on 26/08 before I could control my temps. I only had a 4 inch tt inline fan at first and my temps were over 100F with hps dimmed to 250w, so tried a 200w CFL I had acquired and temps were still in the high 90s. My small 4 incher just couldn't do the job (story of my life lol) even though my room dimensions are about 60cm x 70cm x 170cm. The calcs said the fan should be fine but the first thing I've learned is go as big as possible (within reason) so I got a great deal on a 6 inch Rhino 760m3/hr thermostatic fan and this has brought temps right down to 26/27c with 250w hps.
Adding the inlet, oscillating fan and lastly a humidifier has got my temps down to 22/23 with 400w hps. I never thought it would be possible after my first attempt but I am really pleased and can now dial things down to keep my environment spot on. Learned loads over this last week!
So onto the grow, I potted my germinated seeds last Tuesday 29/08, the first popped up on 30/08 and second on 01/09. Had no real option but to put them under the CFL in silly heat until Sunday when I set up everything properly.
I put them under domes to keep up humidity and kept spraying the domes and soil top outside the dome until the soil went completely dry on 04/09. I mistakenly decided to water fully and next day got some nute burn on one of the seedlings and slowed them down a bit by the look of things.
Things seem to be picking up today and they are growing again with the second set of serrated leaves growing well now. I'll keep the domes on for now and keep spraying until they are big enough to remove.
Looking forward to M_C's input and anyone else who wants to chime in, you've all been a great help so far!
Sorry for the long post, thanks for popping by
