And with those clays you can have constant drip or timed segments....Monitor your rez daily and maintain the Ph, drain and make up a fresh rez weekly...If you have a slight drop in Ec when you measure the rez after a 24hr period you have found the sweet spot for your plants feed strength. It means the plants are feeding well and your not over doing it, if the Ec raises then you need to drop it back...

what would be the pros and cons running constant and on timer?
Are there any or is it just growers choice?

an old hydro grower recommended me to go 24/7 watering as it constantly pulls oxygen down to the roots when the water runs down thru the medium.

i have no idea why people use timed in clay balls to be honest, i could only imagine it is to help keep res temperatures down so the pump isnt getting hot?
or unless they have poor drainage for some odd reason

I used to run mine timed as opposed to constantly on in the early stages to help promote root growth.

Once there was roots out the bottom of the pots though I'd have it on constant.

A small pump isn't got to get hot enough to have a detrimental effect on the res temps regardless of how long it's left on.

Thats my 2 pence worth anyways.

Alright, yeah that makes a lot of sense.

The optimal res temp should be above 20 degrees C? Below 23? mine reaches around 22 during lights on and drops down to 20 lights off. Is
