    Lightbulb Wiring

    Hi all
I have a grow going at the mo but next grow moving into a loft area.
The question id liked answered to is what’s the best way of getting electric up into the loft ie long extension cable from a plug in a room or wire up from my electric box?

Any advice is appreciated and thanks in advance

Ideally you want to extend the socket ring into the loft, I did mine last week.

Easy for me as I planned it in when I moved in so had a drag cable already in the wall to pull the cables up from behind a socket in the master bedroom.

If you get in the loft you should be able to see where the stud walls are, using a hole saw I'd drill a 25mm hole above where 1 of your sockets are located, then try to get a cable down to allow you to pull some new 2.5mm twin and earth up.

I wouldnt be running extension leads personally.

Nice one for the quick reply badger.

All my plug sockets are on a loop will that cause a problem just feeding a wire straight from the socket or do I need to find the last one looped.
My consumer box is easy to get to and I have some horrible wire ducting that goes to the loft could I feed a wire straight from there?
    Cheers badger

If you've got room in the consumer unit then yeah put a new ring into the loft. You'll need a 32a mcb

Ignore the 2 sockets in the center of the image as they're spured from the other sockets, you just want the ring

Personally, I would use 4.0mm twin & earth straight to attic from 20A RCBO on consumer unit, safer and easier than a ring. Max current 37A (In conduit). Put 2 or more double sockets on the end. Average current draw for groom is between 6A-13A and most stuff can be run from extensions from those sockets.

Yo green , run your new circuit First and back to the consumer unit make this your last connection so you don’t risk working live. Turn off the whole consumer unit via the main switch before you open the front up if your adding a new mcb for a new circuit. And make sure you buy the correct breaker for your board and it needs to be a type B for domestic use which most are.
Don’t go poking screwdrivers in things if your not confident mate. Easy job to do but only if you know how
