    I'd guess no for cfls, most reflectors have a built in ballast and that's all that's needed. Hope so anyway

    I looked into em a while back but the smokes deleted the info since : /

    Depends on the draw of the ballast. And the rated amperage of the timers build in relay - to confuse matters the maximum rating in amps of a timer doesnt nessecarily mean it can switch that much.

    To be safe, unless the timer specifically is rated to switch high amp loads, I'd use a relay along with the timer (or contactor as electrical friends would call it)... heat is a bad thing, fires are worse.

    Relays are usually rated in amps;

    I=P/V

    600/240=2.5amps

    So a 600watt (you'll still need to find out the actual wattage when in use to account for overheads from the ballast ) load at 240volts would draw 2.5amps.

    This doesnt mean you should use a relay that matches exactly 2.5amps, especially when switching inductive loads (motors or maybe analogue balasts).

    Hope this helps to some degree

    Any switched mode power supply can be a problem for a switch / timer

    I would hazard a guess and say, as above, youll be fine with a single light

    Ive fried 13a timers with just mars hydro leds

    Inductors, as above are the fuckers here. Think of them like flywheels. You dont stop them quickly....
