    Default Ballast for CFL bulb

I'm building a small grow tent using a 130w CFL tube. My questions are about ballasts.

    1. Do I need a specific ballast for CFL bulbs or do all ballasts work on all types of bulb?

    2. My bulb is 130w but iv'e not seen ballasts below 250w. Is a 250w ballast ok to use with a 130w bulb?

    3. What budget ballast would you recommend for a small grow tent using a 130w CFL growing one (2 max depending on size) plant?

Fits any E40 lamp holder/screw fitting
    CFL – Compact Fluorescent Lamp
    Low power consumption
Supercool spectrum – ideal for propagation or veg stage
    Colour temperature – 14000K
    Built-in Ballast
You don't need any ballast as far as I can see.

Hey mate, All the CFLs I have used have never needed a Ballast. I plugged mine into the reflector and then bought a plug attachment from the hydro store.

130w CFL isnt a huge amount of light, did you ever think of upgrading to LED?

I plan on getting an led lamp soon. I got a really good deal on a one plant tent set up and the cfl came with it. Figured I'd give it a shot to find my feet then get something better.

Would I be correct in thinking I could plug it straight in to a kettle lead for example?

His big is this tent? I doubt very much that a 130 watt cfl will be sufficient.

I believe CFLs go into an E40 socket, same as HID but no external ballast required

Seriously it was in the kit for a reason, avoid it please

You can pick up a cheap 300/127W LED, for around 50 bucks. Would be much better than the CFL.

I'll look in to it. Would probably be better to start with an led than swap it out later.
