    Default Nutes, How many ?

    Morning THCtalk,

As the title reads just "how many is to many" when it comes to nutrients. As new growers like myself and many others we would have read multiple guide, watched masses amounts of videos and overloaded ourselves with information when it comes to nutrients. I have read guides where top growers only use 3 nutrients and other guides where growers have used upwards of 11 nutrients for a single grow.

So calling on growers "just how many" is really needed for a successful grow, can you get by on a couple or do you need the extra to help maximise the plants potential? Lets saying we are growing in Soil.

    Thanks.

Depends on the medium mate as to what and how many nutrients. What are you growing in ?

    So soil..

1.Grow (this is a just in case nute coz alot of soils have enough nutes to get you through until flower)

    2. Bloom for flower

    3. PK (this is optional) some use it others dont bother.

Depending on what lights and your water you may need a cal/mag for foliar or epsom salts.

    Edit...

You could add a root stim to this like rhizo or Great white Shark (I use the Great White shark).

Gardo raised a very good point the other day. Because of the legality of canna research there is very little evidence on nutrients for canna. You can extrapolate some conclusions from studys on hemp and other plants but this has similar limitations to that of animal studies in relation to humans. All the evidence is anecdotal and just coz the guy uses 11 nutes doesnt mean he couldn't get the same result from 4 nutes (depending on the medium of course).

In my limited experience but extensive reading I have come to the conclusion that it is best to use as little as you can get away with. Most of the really pro guys take a less is more approach to nutes.

The guys using 11 different nutrients sound like the kind of guys that fall into the advanced nutrients money trap. Sad to see but it’s different horses for courses I suppose.

Plants only need an npk base with macro, micro and secondary elements to grow, nothing else. Either a one or two part base nutrient will cover this. Yes you can add a few extras to better your grow but until you’ve tried it with the basics, how do you know these extras are bettering your grow at all

Ive very rarely used grow in soil as ive never needed it,(maybe in the last week of veg if the leaves are turning pale.) Cal-mag, ive had several issues but everything sorted after ive used it. Bloom works great on its own but my last grow i also used pk 4-8 and had great results,(but this could be because they were different strains from when i didnt use it on previous plants.)

Not to hijack the thread but I'd be interested to know more about foliar sprays, mixing concentrations and when to use etc.

Seems to be a lot of mixed advice with these aswell.
