    Strain: Amnesia Fast
    Date: 29 October 2018
    Day 27 from sowing
    Light/darkness: 18/6

    Tent stats:

Lamp: 2 clusters (out of 4)
    Temp: 23.8 Degrees C
    Humidity: 36%

    Text only update:

Potted up the Amnesia Fast, so she is now sitting even closer to the lamp. Hopefully the mycorrhizae fungi in the big pot has been doing its thing with the fish-blood-bone and sorts out the "low N" that she appears to have. Also pruned off the 2 single finger leaves as they have gone completely yellow.

This little plant has been working hard growing roots. Her root ball is a mass network of fine roots, and, compared to the Mama Thai, her roots are finer, but in greater abundance.

I really need her to crack on if we are to finish by the end of the year.

Feeling the heat LOL on this cold day.
    Fight for your health.
Hug those who care about you, do all you can for those you love (if they want it). We just never know when it might be the last time we talk to them or see them.

She is getting me both excited as well as worried. She smells strong, already, at her tiny stature. She has that "body odour", presumably skunky, kinda smell; and, a lemon candy kind of smell, not like fresh lemons, but a tangy, acidic "lemon flavour" kind of smell.

There are 2 budding branches at the top on either side of where I had topped her. I am very glad to see new growth.

What is worrying is her "low N" although her new growths look okay, and there really is a fair bit of nutrients in the soil. I am trying very hard to not use Black Magic on this plant, so have so far only fed with Fish-Blood-Bone, Plantgrow, and Liquid Seaweed, keeping it all "natural". Not sold on Bat Guano as transporting that stuff is gonna have quite a large carbon footprint.

In other words, I have not dealt a wallop of a hit against the "Low N", but am hoping that the natural, friendly microbes in the soil would do their magic and release some Nitrogen for the plant for me. Because I do not believe there is a nutrient shortage in the soil.

So after suffering a not insignificant IT glitch, I am back with an update on the Amnesia Fast. Not quite sure what to name her and she has not yet given me a name to call her.

She is doing just about Okay, though I am puzzled by the yellowing leaves. She can not be low on Nitrogen. She has had fish-blood-bone practically dumped on her, and she is getting that Plantgrow posh compost tea, so I think the dryness is what is causing the confusion.

The relatively "low" temperatures is a slight worry for me. I prefer for them to get 25 deg C and above, rather than 20+, but I guess you run with what you can get!

I can't begin to describe how say it is to just throw some high N feed at her and be done with it, but that would deviate from the organic-ness of this grow and I want to keep it organic! One thing that I have noticed is how much she smells! She is tiny but is smelling like a plant much bigger! I shall be re-potting her soon into the big pot, but that would be next week.

Her room-mates are coming on slow, but whatever, as long as she delivers we would be okay. Can't wait for her to get bigger so I can flip to 12/12!!!

The biggest issue is the temperatures. I would like to keep her above 25 deg C but besides an actual mini oil heater, I can't see how that is gonna work!
perhaps is your water very cold when you watering? very young plants & roots.. if temps are 20 Cº or down, soil & cold water cant hand a good roots..

Thanks J Trich! The water and nutrients are kept in the same room so would be just over 20 Deg C, but you are right, the environment could be a little warmer. She is in her "big" pot now and her new growth looks good, so I am going to let her be for a while. She is a plant and has good genetics to rely on.

We might be hard pushed for a 31 December finish though, at the rate she is going. She is not ready for the 12/12 flip yet.

Her pot is still heavy, temps a little bit low, and she is behind on growth. Otherwise she is in good health overall. Her new growth is a darker green so I think the initial "low N" was a false alarm, but came about due to the low RH%.

To get her across the finish line within the recommended time frame of 55-58 days, I should be flipping her today (or should have flipped her last week!), but doing that would seriously affect yield negatively.

    1st world problems...

    Additional notes:

Bumped the light hours from 18/6 to 20/4.

If she responds well I am going to up that to 24/0.

I would really like for her to catch up on growth, beef up some more before I flip. The biggest snag is when she would be ready for the chop. I think some clever manipulation of the lighting hours will need to be applied. No more of that 24/12 madness though!

So 2 days ago I topped her on the top 2 branches, and today she has her first LST. I am really feeling the pressure to finish before the end of the year, so I have decided to play with the light cycles again. As she is in flower, I am gonna just bite the bullet. I have switched her up from 20/4 to 24/0 dark. Just hoping to squeeze in a few more hours of light before the flip.

I am getting quite convinced that her slow growth rate is due to the relatively lower temps, and possibly the organic nutrients. Sammy the Thai was not a Fast strain, yet was bigger at the same point in her life. It's just the way it is, the room is already as warm as I can make it. So I hope the LST gets more light into the nodes underneath and there will be more growth over all.

She is looking good, responding well to LST and the 24/0 lighting, however she is still way behind in terms of size. Her leaves are a very dark green, which means that the previously observed "low N" was a sign of something else.

She gets fed a dilute mix of Plantgrow and liquid seaweed at every watering, and a few pinches of fish-blood-bone when she is looking a bit pale. Other than that, more LST and leaf-tucking. I just really, really need her to grow now.

    Text only update:

The extra hours have helped and the Amnesia has picked up in terms of growth. For the future if the temps are going to be at the low 20s Celsius in veg I am going to have 24/0 to make up for the low temps. Her LST has been totally re-done, and a lot of leaf tucking. The plan is that she sits better and the canopy spread is more even. The toppings have done their job as she is getting many secondary branches and is really bushy.

She sits on her booster seat and the lights are 24/0, so her stretching now could mean that she is reaching maturity and will be ready for flowering soon. On the other hand because she is not going to finish in time anyway, I am going to veg her some more. Her leaves are so very green that I want to see what she can do... in my tent.

Last but not least, jeez, is she stinking up or what! I have had to up my exhaust fan to keep the negative pressure to keep the smell in. I am guessing that this has to do with the organic nutes. LOL, I should have done organic nutes right from the very beginning.

Had to turn exhaust up AGAIN as there was a little smell leak. This is insane, may be in a good way, and we are not even in flowering! My Rhino Pro is 1 year old so I am planning a trip to the hydro store for a new filter to have on stand by. With new neighbours you can just never quite tell who or what we're dealing with.

The Amnesia is catching up on growth, though she has a little to go yet. The leaf tips are going stretchy and her leaves are a very, very dark green. She is having only water with seaweed for now.

May flip this Saturday but we shall see.

I don't know how happy I am with my Rhino Pro. This is my 2nd one in two years and I'm definitely experiencing smell leaks.

I've ordered a Mountain Air which arrives tomorrow. I'll whack it in over the weekend and hopefully that puts an end to the leaks.

I know Cheese is super-stinky but I've seen a few ppl lately complain about smell leaks with the Rhino Pros 😒😒😒

Thanks, Whiplash! Yeah, the switch from the RAM to the Rhino Pro was huge, and I was very happy with it then.

"Second one in two years", so on average this is one a year?

Shoot, now that it is a year old, and as this little plant is a stinker, I am concerned. Looks like I have shopping to do... :-/

I am pretty sold on the Scorpions though... that red powder coating looks so cool!

My first one lasted about 18 months but this one is leaking smell after about 6 months. Perhaps I got a dud? I've read good things about Mountain Air, so let's see!

All the best with the Mountain Air!

I got around the leak for a while by upping the extraction, but ultimately when the carbon is "used up" a change is necessary.

    Text only additional note:

The increased exhaust is helping to keep stray smells at bay, but as there is no way of telling exactly how close to the end my carbon filter is, I am lowering the temps slightly by reducing the heat source. Lower temps, slower metabolism for the plant, hopefully less smell.

Flipping to 12/12 would help somewhat with the temps, and I am very tempted - though yield could become an issue at this stage.

On a side note, this closed-loop growing thing is really getting intriguing. I wonder how small can they get.

What do you mean by closed-loop growing?

Having my doubts about the pineapple btw. What's your thought on cilantro?

The 24/0 lighting has helped her catch up on growth so she will be getting the 12/12 flip today. The lower temps may or may not have brought on the purple hues here and there but either way it's fine. She was given water only but this is because the leaf tips are somewhat elongated in the new growth. I tightened some of the LST in preparation for the stretch.

Right, hope your Mountain Air delivers. I was able to get another Rhino Pro so Rhino Pro it shall be. Gonna test it today with a lower fan setting and if everything is all good, then let's flip!

She is really stinking up! And the cold spell is not making life easier. Still that could be blessing in disguise or she might be stinking more... OMG. At this rate I might not be growing this strain again. She smells a little of coffee close up, but if I turn down the exhaust her smell leaks. The new filter has only meant that I can keep the fan slightly not as high, but still close to the max level in terms of noise.

She is stretching and spacing out, as well as turning her branches upwards, which are all good news. She got fed a diluted mix of Plantgrow with extra seaweed, nothing more, as one of her leaves is a little burnt at the tips.

No signs of pistils yet, but with the low temps there might be a longer wait.

    Strain: Amnesia Fast
    Date: 24 November 2018
    Day 53 from sowing
    Light/darkness: 11/13; Day 7

    Tent stats:

Lamp: 2 clusters (out of 4)
    Temp: 20.4 Degrees C
    Humidity: 46 %

She is clearly stretching, no pistils yet, but going by her looks I am expecting them anytime now. The low temps are a real PITA but we gotta run with what we've got.

Her pot is still heavy so nothing was given. She is getting real stinky too. There was a good waft of coffee as I opened the tent. She is my stinkiest plant so far.

Her Sensi roommate has thrown out some pistils, but not her, the Amnesia Fast. There's a CBD too but that is still tiny.

With an expected flowering time of 58 days, and the low temps slowing everything down, looks like this run is gonna be deep into January before she gets the chop.

I guess the good news is that so far, my organic feeds are working well.

    If anyone is curious:

Liquid Plantgrow, which is a posh compost tea
Liquid Seaweed, the very same stuff that can be found at garden centres
Fish, blood and bone, the very same stuff that comes in boxes at garden centres
Also some mycorrhizae, should also be available at your local garden centres

My reason for these nutrients is simple, exactly that, simplicity. No mixing, no pH-ing, no nothing. Throw it in, let the plant do what she does.
