Default Thinking about building a grow room in the loft

Looking for advice or others experiences if possible... The space I have available is 120cm deep,
250cm wide, 200cm tall obviously with the roof beams being the main factor here.

I’ve the idea on how to set it up in my head but is the space viable? Looking at it I think at least 4 plants would fit and I’m planning on setting up 2 nft tanks rather than soil.

Out of interest I stuck a few floor boards down lose to see, so would sheeting it out be enough or am I better building as a wooden room with plyboards and insulating it properly? There’s an external vent on both sides of the loft and a sparky mate can sort mains power supplies up there.

Pic for reference but doesn’t really show it the best. Light would either be the 600w hps or invisible sun units when I can afford them 😂

Would a roof qube not fit in teapot? 1.2x1.2x1.8?

The joists look extremely similar to my last gaff. It would fit like a dream I reckon.

If I was boarding it out I’d use plasterboard on both sides of the joists and insulate with rock wool . This would be my choice over a tent . Tent is great and just pops up in minutes. But a room would suit you better imho for environmental issues in the summer and winter. The reason I’d go for both the plasterboard and rock wool is there are both fire retardant and good sound and heat insulators 😃🇬🇧

A tent would be ideal but it’s the clearance at the top I think I’d have trouble with plus the shape of space in general. Definitely interested tho mr farmshop

I spent this afternoon fixing the floor boards properly and I’ve put one either side at the bottom. Tbh there’s so much insulation in the loft I could use some of that

Looks like the old mars could do for now, forgot about that one

Id continue as you are and build and maximise the space better than any tent could. Plus in the loft it will provide you with a more stable environment 😃🇬🇧

Great news gotta love free stuff 😂 a little tip I’d be painting that board with bathroom emulsion as once the humidity gets init it will expand and start too peel apart. The bathroom emulsion will be water resistant to a point and will give you a good reflective surface. Use flat matt white . Also I’d consider sealing with silicone in between all joints so ya knows it’s smell proof 😃🇬🇧

So it’s gone from thinking to doing pretty fast 😂

I’ve a load of silicone as I planned doing that with the floor so I’ll do all joints. Will I need to paint as I’ve just bought a shit load of that black and white sheeting and floor protect to line it all out with... Justified it what with the free wood 😂. I’ll seal it all with tape.

Got some new pots and soil too 😂. Bloke at the shop offered me some new soil he recommended, money back guarantee he said...

Default Thinking about building a grow room in the loft

And all of a sudden the pressures on 😊😂.

I’ll do my best pretty much off the top of my head, will probably be a total bodge though and I’ll pull it all back down 🤔

Hi mate, I've built a room within the loft recently and it's looking great so far. I was paranoid as fuck with the copper chopper so I insulated between the rafters with those polystyrene blocks and fixed a layer of reflective bubble wrap over the top as well. I also put a layer of the bubble wrap on the inside of the room to insulate it better. It took ages but the result is my loft is still really cold but the grow room is a steady 25 ish degrees with lights on. There should be a link to my diary in the sig, I posted some photos of the build although they are pretty shit lol.

Thats always good to hear dude, I’ll have a look at your diary.

Insulation wise I think there’s more than enough in the loft to use some of that, I was wondering weather I should cover the under side of the roof too but maybe that’s over kill- see how it goes I guess. Pretty sure it’ll be harder warning an uninsulated room up there than it’ll be cooling it down? Still to work put intake/outtake holes for fans. Plan a 4” in and 5/6” out?

Still thinking of the best way to cover the front and backs
