Default Switching to Coco - advise needed

    Hi all,
I have just switched to coco/perlite from expanded clay.
Just trying to get my head around watering in the new medium.
Previously, I had a trickle system, watering for about 5-10 mins per hour. Obviously the left over nutrient would run through the clay and back into the reservoir. Now using the same watering schedule, there is no runoff into the reservoir and my nutrient is being used much quicker.

How do you water your plants in coco/perlite and what nutrient are you using?

    Regards

Is coco more adsorbent meaning you need to get more in there to begin with, but then it should carry on like normal?

Agree with what skunk and M_C are saying mate, i water 5L once daily in 15L pots to get run off.

As M_C says, run to waste as youre watering to run off to stop any salt built up

I don?t use a dripper system bro but I?d imagine you would need to change your times up.

Instead of watering for 10-15 mins every hour, I?d go for like a small flow over the space of half an hour/an hour or something like that. This will give you good drainage as the coco will be saturated already instead of having time to dry slightly before your next 10-15 min fee if that makes sense to you ...

You need to give the coco a good soaking for decent run off, I hand water 4-6L of feed into 20L pots.

You might need to invest in a bigger reservoir or something bro hope any of this helps, I?m sure people who already run systems can help out further.

I'm trialling a reservoir timer pump setup.

Two 4mm lines to each pot via a manifold

I'm still finding the sweet spot but I'm feeding currently

    5pm 1 minute
11pm 2 minutes ( to make sure I get good run off )
    5am 1 minute

    All runs to waste

    Hi

Only ever used coco RTW and as a rule of thumb I found a daily feed of around 20% of the pot size (3L in my 15L airpots) delivers the desired 20% run-off. Once a week a midday 3-4L sluice/flush with just plain water helps to slow/prevent any salt build-up.

    ATB.

Also worth noting that environment will determine how much you.need to be feeding mate

Temps and RH have a lot to do with how fast your pots dry out so will need to fiddle about until you get the right amount

you need to change the water timings. coco hold the water content in it for a long time means it needs less water as compare to the other medium. coco also hold the more nutrients in it which ti release slowly to feed the plant when ever plants need nutrients. this si the reason of quick absorption of nutrients. Check the pH level after supplying the nutrients.
