So, according to that. I have two 600w hps and fans etc do I double the number? About 400 on a photo grow of 4 veg and 8/9 flower. That’s two nice street ounces. Bargain! Thanks for this gardro Iv always Been curious about this.

    Hi mate

If you have a watt meter, just measure everything

    But roughly

    Ballast will be 25-50w
    Fan and controller 75w average
    Dehumidifier 250w
    Oscillating fans 60w

    Total 1035w

In reality, things like dehumidifiers arent on all the time so it could be more like 900w average

It does take into account lights off costs to ensure that photos and non 24/0 auto grows are accurate information

Columns are for total electricty pull during lights on including fans etc

Off light cost is estimated at 250w
Unit price is 15p for this example

Hope it's gives some idea to the costs you may well face.

I can tweak this for your numbers if you want an exact estimation.

My lights flutter around 155w, then everything else (4"extract low speed, 2 clip fans and a small occilating fan, 1x 400ml dehumidifier and 1x 3.2L dehumidifier) takes 117w so 275ish. I try not to use the heater since the oil filled one packed up so happy with those numbers. Would've been double till recently when we put the new lights in. Summer will be cheaper too as temps will allow for lights off

@gardro There are some errors in the 100 and 200 watt columns mate, prices decrease with increasing hours of running the lights in the autoflower section.
63 days seed to harvest at 18 hours is 31 pounds and 91 days at 24 hours only 33 this told me something wasn't right and after looking closely it seems those two whole columns are off.

I really think it would be very helpful if we all started measuring our yield not just in grams per watt of lighting but in grams per kWh of electricity consumed by the lights alone for the most accurate calculation of the efficiency of our grows and to be able to objectively compare autoflower grows to photoperiods.
Also if enough people start doing this for photoperoid grows we might get a much better idea of what exactly the sweet spot in efficiency is in terms of vegging time. It won't be easy since there are other variables as well such as plant density, surely a packed groom would perform better than a single plant with plenty of empty space around it (like my Sweet Russian grow which easily would've fit 4 plants instead of just the one, I'm not saying it would've quadrupled the yield but I am willing to bet it would've been significantly better).

    You are right gardro
But heating is something that depends on a lot of factors such as you ventilation speed, ambient temperature and even at which point in your tent you are extracting from has a big influence or at least it does in my refrigerator since it's insulated.

I'm extracting at the top and during my last grow I turned off the circulation fan because that was pushing down hot air which made it that I was extracting cooler mixed air compared to having it off and thus a lower ambient temperature, which in summer is preferable. The winter before I added that circulation fan for the same reason since I didn't have the space to extract lower to keep more of the heat in.
In a future build I'll definitely create the option make it easier to adjust my extraction point.

Yeah absolutely, all grows are very subjective so this illustration deals in general but it does give a broad comparison of total cost, and therefore KWhs across the range of powers in photos and autos. The formulae did actually take a while to get right.

Micro power / high efficiency is certainly a niche analysis and heating costs far outweigh lighting at this end. I have to include dehumidifiers and heaters for on and off light as the dreaded rot comes into play. Turn down your ventilation at your peril! ( Had bags of rotten buds to show for it)

Ow absolutely! This is part of the reason I recently bought a 180w Hans Panel since it makes more sense to run more light and increase the temperature that way then it does by just adding heating. Especially in a box that is insulated.

Turning the circulating fan off wasn't much of a risk, I only had a single small plant going + the air is very dry this time of year where I am. For you guys in the UK that would've been a very risky move.
