    Default Primes 2019 loft build

    Gday cobbers

Just going to start a post about my planned loft build. Since I started my journey as a cannabis grower I have pretty much been in the same size grow space, 90 X 90 under either a 600 or a 400w bulb. The tent is hidden in a wardrobe, however, now my eldest lad is talking about growing strawberries and I've become a bit panicked. All it takes is one comment from him in school about his dad's strawberries and I'm fucked.
Soooo... It's time to move upwards and onwards to the loft where he has no access, nor does anyone else. The loft hatch is tiny, so it's not somewhere that can be used for storage normally, I literally have to fold myself in half to get up there. The landlord has never in 8 years been up there once, due to the acrobatics involved in gaining access. There is a defunct cold water tank, however, cold water supply can be easily reinstated and drainage can go down the old overflow.
As it's an old loft, temps are entirely dependent on the outside weather, scorching hot in summer, freezing in winter.
This is gonna be a pain in the arse to build, trying to make an well insulated, sealed grow room but if I wanna carry on growing it needs to be done.

The loft space is obviously triangular, as it's below the roof, but the usable space is still 3m X 2m. Plenty big enough to have veg, flower and cuts all in there in separate chambers.
Depending if I can find a suitable size loft tent I could possibly make the raised floor and then tent up and insulate that, as opposed to having to make walls and mylar. Think tent option is the best.

I'm contemplating venting straight out of chimney too, maybe air cooled lights so the lighting ventilation is on a separate run from the grow chambers, which I would prefer to be a sealed unit should I ever need to get an Aircon or something if it gets too hot in summer. During last summer when football was coming home, temps in the tent got up to 39c, plants were truly stunted and set back weeks because of it.
Anyway I'll post pics of my ideas later on

    Let's roll
When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all.

I’ve been contemplating building a loft grow room for ages. I have a 1.2m x 1.2m loft tent with a air cooled light. I tried to grow in there last summer and temps were still high 30’s to have any real control over your environment in the summer months A/C is the way. Also being such a small loft hatch how you planning on getting Materials up there? Lol.
    Good luck anyway

As BG, Ive built a few for others too...will sit in on this one

PIR Insulation is your friend, you'd be amazed at the difference even with just 50mm

Just checked out yours mate, very similar to what I'm planning, very nicely done.. A suspended floor from the 2 roof beams. My span between the 2 beams is 2.8m though so I'm gonna have to support the centre from the top of the internal wall that's centre of house, pretty much dead centre between the beams. Hoping to have a low height of 1.8m before it starts sloping upwards with the roof to 2.0m highest.

Think with the awkward access I'm gonna be in for some fun. Loft boards go up ok for flooring, sure I can manage to get 2.4m lengths of 2x4 up somehow, maybe not. Getting kingspan would involve much cutting so gonna use reflective bubble foil under the slates to reduce radiative heat gain from the slates in summer. Under that I'll leave a small void and theñ use Rockwool to insulate against conductive heat on the outside of the tent or structure I build if tent is a no go. I've not read all your diary yet, is venting through the chimney ok security wise. I'm planning on air cooled lights so the fan pressure wouldn't need to be very high I wouldn't think, maybe a 4 inch ruck which I already have.

Venting through the chimney is fine as long as it's not used .

Make a hole at top of stairs to get materials up, repair when done

The pic from inside the loft with the large bean I will be suspending off. Unsure of whether to use 2x4 as the droppers or flat metal
