    Default Boxing my fan in

Running a 6" RVK L1 and got it hanging from a hook in the roof apex with some rope atm

When it goes above 30%ish i can hear a low level rumble which transmits through the house, least im guessing its that

So my plan is to build a box out of MDF to house the fan in. Will stick some rubber feet to the bottom and sit it on the floor instead in the hope itll absorb the vibrations

Just wondering what MDF and sound proofing/insulation i should go for? Was thinking 12/18mm MDF but no idea for the insulation!

Made loads of em! Ply,mdf, any old shit you can get hold of free! Even made one out of a cardboard box for a 4” years ago. Just fill with pillows, celotex, rockwool, beanbag beans, old clothes anything really mate! Don’t forget the ducting! You can use the same principle as a car exhaust, have used a box for a carbon filter stuffed with celotex/rockwool..a massive water pipe filled with expanding foam..or just wrap em up in old duvets! Get all blue peter on the motherfucker!

Have you tried putting your hand over the end of the ducting where the air blows out? I did this one day by accident and found that it stopped the low level 'hum' that was coming from the fan. So i gaffer taped over half the end of the outlet hole,(but after a few days it kept getting unstuck) so I bought a cheap diffuser type thing and stuck it on the end and its sorted my problem. (only have a 4'' fan/ducting though.Have a look at my diary, the diffuser thing is on there.)

Maybe, probably not. I had my 8” intake sitting on about 3 foot of pillows and crap..was still noisy. Built a box and loads better. Mind you that’s sitting on a couple of pillows still haha
