    Default UPS for extractor fan

    Hi

Does anyone use a UPS for their extractor?

I run a 6” rhino pro fan, that I want to hookup to a dependable UPS.

Looking online they seem a bit hit and miss.

I don’t mind shelling out for something enterprise quality - due to what I plan to use it for!

A power cut late flower is a real worry.

    Thanks

Look up grid tied hybrid inverters for a solid solution. Im using 3KW set up with 200Ah of batteries that covers entire grow.

    Hi Gardo

Are you using a leisure battery or is there something better? 18650s in series?

Seen a couple of grid tied 3kw inverters with auto switching north of £500.

I really only need the backup of exhaust fan in case power fails at work (8 hrs tops - but I would be notified and can get home) - so reckon 300w is enough attached to a 12v leisure battery.

    Thanks!!

Lipo will work great if you can get the amp hours you need.

When i saw Enterprise i thought you meant big money lol.

You can use pretty much any APC or other ups and add your own external, larger bank. I suspect most UPS wont have lithium charging profiles though. Just overtate the watts / VAs to double the load at least. Pure sine wave is best for motors and fans.

Leisure batteries are ok but not best for long term. Standby batteries eg Powersafe or Fiamm are great for long terms backup protection but not much cycling.

I use Rolls Deep Cycle L16s which can be cycled full to flat over 2000 times. Free growing in the Summer!

Now you got me thinking!!!! - a lot of the grid tied are solar input :-)

Happy to go down that route - I run two ponds with all gubbons off solar.

So you run solar and battery back up? If I could run the groom solar in the summer - then a very sensible investment to scale correctly - not much price difference! Also each grow saves me 3k!!!

Today was wonderful for instance. I also have a south facing back garden too :-)

Yep its grid tied, mppt solar and bank fed. Any extra solar goes to grid once batteries are full. Since im not officially installed, i now only have 1000w of panels so im never really feeding the grid. Not much good in winter but still saves me when the power trips off and the grow continues seemlessly. It also covers my chest freezers etc

I got the whole lot cheap off Ebay. New would be crazy for this kit

We do a fair amount of UPS units , 3kv 5kv and 6kv.

We are always upgrading them around the country and scoop back the old ones. We normally bin them.

We get real good pricing on spares as well.

    Got me thinking

    Interesting stuff all this!

Could anyone here tell me what I would need to set something like this up for my tiny grow box?
    I have the following:
    Invisible Sun LED 60W
    extraction fan 37W
    Heat mat 42W
    Circulation fan 5W
So just short of 150watt total
How much would something like that cost?
Especially in Winter the chances are biggest for a power cut when we get a bit of a storm.
