Default What's the deal with egg shells?

Hi Redisiel. Is egg shell all that? Would it help in terms of calcium release, and what kind of time frame do they need before effects can be seen?

    Thanks.

    Yes val,

I used stick it in the worm bin.
it releases calcium at some point and helps worms digest (apparently)microbes do most of this I believe but i don’t even eat eggs so don’t use them i worry more about the bad stuff it brings, salmonella etc I use oyster shell instead which has a lot more calcium.
It would become available quicker the quicker it gets broken down in the soil, wormbin etc then it would be just another source when needed like any other in the soil I believe.
I’m not too sure about the inns and outs of it but I’m sure I’ll be able to dig up something a bit more solid.
    Leave it with me val.

if you have egg shells you need put them in the oven for 30mins on 60c that gets rid of the bad stuff, throw them in a blender turn then into powder, I mix into the soil but have not worked out the perfect mix

Egg shells are what girl chickens lay as part of what I like to call an egg. There is delicious goodness inside the shell, but it must be properly cooked.

    I hope this helps.

Don't get me started... just had one that sat too close to the back of the fridge, froze, split and spilt its content.

    I hate wasting food.

Egg shell takes forever to break down. Waste of time indoors imho.
