Do plants use less water when they are close to the chop?
As in, do their metabolism slow down?
I would have thought the metabolism would speed up somewhat to chuck out more trichomes, THEN after that they start to slow down?
Anyone?

Mine were taking more water towards the end valentina, about 6 litres each, but I was only watering every other day. Not sure if this helps you?

I notice that my plants take increasingly more water as they mature in flowering. Sativa's seem to drink a lot more, typically about 1.5 gallons/day... or 5-6 liters. I don't notice a surge or anything, they just seem to use more as they get larger and closer to finishing. FWIW, I tend to let my plants grow taller than most growers, so it could be that as well. As far as watering goes with harvest or anything, I don't think it matters too much at all, except maybe with flushing.
Thanks both!! And exactly! What I was suspecting as well, but I have one that is close-ish to chop, and she is just suddenly taking up less water. I mean, the weather plays a part and everything is less warm at the moment, but that one plant, a Thai S1, so I would have thought is over 85% sativa, yet is taking less water than her roommates.
I am trying to flush her so with her not taking on water, I am kinda stuck. She has one or two ambers here and there but I think we are gonna have to play by ear on this one. CHeers.
Sativa's are a whole different animal when it comes to flowering, since it keeps growing while it is flowering and giving those long Sativa buds that are popular once grown. I don't rely too much on Trichome color change as the difference between a "correct" Trichome ratio and the naturally occurring differences in Thc/CBD is minimal. I look for yellowing of larger bottom fan leaves, although if you use a lot of fertilizer, this might not be as prominent. The overall shape of the buds... especially the very tips, seem to get more pointed with the odd single twisted leaf or strange growth at the very end of the larger buds, of course, the Trichome changes ... just a couple of signs that add up together to telll me that things are about ready. They also get a heavy, greasy feeling. I prefer to allow mine to grow out fully, as I feel I get the most flavor and added heft during the last 1-2 weeks. It really stacks it on.
Some more .some less . Depends on the heat and many factors

Thanks, Jimster. Yeah, I am letting her grow out fully too, but she is close for sure. The previous generation was a full 11 weeks, but as this one is a S1 and some of that flowering happened on her own accord, the timing is off. The fact that she got pollinated does not help LOL.
There is a bit of foxtailing definitely, and she is not chucking out new pistils, but neither is she packing on weight. She is getting greasy, but I think she can be greasier still. Heck, I need her to be!
