Default Second time growing, first grow thread.

I had one try at growing a plant last year, didn't really put much effort in. Didn't even fertilise and just stuck in a pot of soil in a cupboard. Ended up with about half an oz, not much but I think my lights were not enough along with not feeding the poor thing she did well.

Now I am looking to do my second grow and been thinking about doing some clones in hydroponics. The first question I have is how many lumens does a mother plant need? I have some Cree CXA1507 LED's for the clones with 5 in a foot square providing 4200 lumens which seems a little below average but it's what I have. The heat sinks are maybe a little overkill but meh. Was a pain in the ass drilling and tapping them...

I haven't worked out how to raise and lower the plants yet / lights. Mothers are going to be on the top and clones on the bottom. Not sure if one or two plants should be in the foot square, probably one I think.

Here are a few shots of me testing the flood drain ubend. Thought I would share my experience, always found it useful.

Plants don't see light as lumens, but on another level of Par readings. Most of us don't have par gages, so we go by what the manufactors say, MH-HPS show 6 par per watt, where LED's are measure at A much higher per watt. Best thing I can tell you is to go over to google and read up on Lumens vs Par HPS or LED'S. Good luck and happy growing. JMO

Dunno, doesn't have any PAR values in the datasheet. Only this graph. I went with the 4000k

That is more of A veg spectrum, for flowering you need in the range of 2100. What kind of lights or you using, and what wattage are they pulling?

They do 2700k lights, says the power rating is 14.8W per COB so 74W per foot.

Been reading a few SoG threads so now thinking I could do 4 plants per foot.

Those sound like wall lights. You would be money ahead if you invested in A LED or MH-HPS as oppose of using those. How far you from Florida?

Some of them look like this. I would send you this one, but postage would be too much. You can buy one cheaper with free shipping.

I do have some 660nm and 470nm LED bulbs. They are actually what I first tested from seed and found my plant stretched a lot. Then I bought some other warm white leds/CFL and the plant was a lot happier. Think I still used a few of the red LED bulbs. Also have bulbs with a mix of warm white and reds. They just don't have enough watts I think. Could be a good idea to mix in some red bulbs maybe?
I enjoy the experimenting more than buying a legit LED light.

I also have two 11W CFL's. Haven't tried these new COB LED's growing yet but I have them so going to try them out.

Could be interesting once I get both sides set up to test different lighting setups with the clones. Going to roll one and read through your thread.
