figured this missus was forever breaking her bubblers i might as well reuse the glass jars we some how always seem to have on hand! the firingtubes wer 40pm each two different lengths, #12 drill bit sorted! bigger capacity this one for water she likes the smooth smoke!
best thing is it packs down into itself or we just bring the lid n the tubes n find another glass jar that fits it

Yes I'm well aware of their (over)protected status, I actually think it holds people back from planting them (not me though). There should be some sort of provision that allows people that plant the trees more freedom in how they maintain them. I'm all for laws that protect old trees but needing to request permission for even basic pruning seems a bit over the top.
Speaking of pipe bowls, do you happen to know if young olive wood it good for that as well, from say less than 5 year old branches? Or is it better to use older stuff that has developed some proper heartwood?
heartwood mate, the shaft can be younger
i make mine using embers n a pipe i gouge a wee bit then set a small piece of hot coal n blow thu a bamboo pipe/straw it smoulders a bowl n hardens it off at the same time so you dont get the flaking of the wood from spoon carved, (after youve carved the bowl shape) takes a while to achieve but its nice to do over a wee fire with a few js n company just dont forget the ember can roll off onto your lap ! mate of mine near burnt his nether regions it went thu his sarong like a hot knife thu butter very narrowly missing his member!
dont have any to hand, i usually make em smoke em then gift them away!
