On the flip side of the coin I've seen many coco grows here get messed up big time due to EC readings not being followed correctly, or a grower simply not understand coco..and underwatering etc.

Soil for me seems a lot easier to grow (and please coco growers I'm not starting an argument over which is best LOL)..these are MY personal reasons

I see many growers not even having a clue about PH, EC being another factor for them to consider that may seem complex to them, learning to manage watering is part of becoming a better grower in my opinion, so having a new grower actually learn the fundamentals just seems logical to me at least.

I'm 100% sure both ways of growing are good choices, but when it comes down to personal recommendations, then they are what we as individuals would do ourselves.

The great part is Jumper..we are all giving our opinions and ultimately the grower from these choices can research a little and see what would best suit there style

Absolutely Ice. No fanboiism. Just wanted to help the OP and open up a decent discussion.

Agreed coco growers fail mainly due to lacking an EC meter and PH pen!!!

For cannabis, I do not grow in soil. So I ask genuinely.

Soil seems very complicated to me as a beginner will not have the skill set to see, understand and address issues. Is it not better to learn the plant first and then up the ante and go organic. Soil changes lag so fixing problems is so much harder.

I would like to go no till soil - but for now am happy learning the trade. KISS being vital for me. Also repeatable results every grow.

With soil, what I do see day in day out on here is stunted plants, hot soil, over watered, over fed and yellowing plants in distress. Rare to see that in a coco grow!

Curious why soil is advocated as the beginners default choice??
See I can't advise much but I'm on my first grow with soil an completely organic and haven't run into any issues other than fungal gnats an temp issues I've never really had issues with the plants other than what I caused myself and find it pretty good at the moment with autos and photos

As for coco I have loved it up to now and the only downside I have found is watering every day like people have said but that has helped me take more note of my plants and what is going on, as I'm in the tent every day. I just feel I have more control with coco

Either way I'm sure people will advise you

    All the best

Get yourself some auto feeders !!!! Simplify your life. Build Gardro’s auto drain to waste, and only refill a reservoir!!!

No more run off and no more daily feedings.

Ultimately if you master either method you will have more weed than you know what to do with! The quality will be the best you have ever had.

It also tastes better from your own work. End of!

Some good choices are Biobizz Lightmix, Verve B+Q is popular as is Jack's Magic Compost.
