    Default Airflow noise reduction

Hi so recently bought hyper phresh fan 8” expecting it to be quiet which impo it’s not that good so now I’m looking at having to buy the stealth version. But the weird thing is the noise sounds louder when I stand at different positions in the house sometimes it’s quieter when I’m closer to it. I also think that it could be air movement causing the noise. I have insulated ducting and I even bought one of their acoustic trap thing. Which didn’t help. Ok enough waffle if I buy a bigger scrubber carbon filter will this make any difference to noise. I’m thinking that it won’t pull the air through it as aggressively if that makes sense the room right above is really noisey and there is no way to insulate or dampen the room it’s in or the one above. Tia

Oversize the ducting or reduce bends in the run. Sound will be bouncing off hard surfaces in the room or reverberating through the building, hence why it changes as you move. Egg boxes work but there is a specific cut acosutic foam which will absorb most of it.

What size is your carbon filter & where is it in the run ? make sure its throughput in m3 is equal to or greater than the output of your fan, obviously if its the same or minimally different, that could be an issue too

Thanks for reply it’s the shorter one out of the two options I think it’s 400 it’s a phresh filter can’t reduce any bends unfortunately it’s tight it’s first in the run

It just sounds like most of the noise is coming from the carbon filter and not the fan and was hoping there might be things I can do to reduce the noise. And I’m wondering if by getting the next size up longer fan will it help reduce the noise.?

Put the extract or intake fan in a cardboard box. Helps reduce the noise significantly

The fan itself isn’t the problem mate but thanks I think it’s the air movement

I bolted a second carbon filter the other side of the run. Vastly reduced the noise. I also added a 6”
    Muffler in between.

If it's not the fan and only the whooshing noise inside the ducting then oversizing the ducting as AND suggested could help.

The problem I had was air movement, especially on the outlet ducting. Firstly i stuck a load of ducting over half the outlet as a short term measure then bought a kind of mufler that went on the end of the ducting which helped alot. I still get noise, my tent is in the bedroom, but the funny thing is, in between grows now when i have no fan on, i find it harder to get to sleep as im so used to the noise.

Try moving it to the end if you can, it may help. Have you got a controller on the fan ?
