Hello all, after hearing a hermie being referred to as a male a few times now, I thought this post may help newcomers to avoid future confusion.
You can only get a true male plant from regular seed. In addition, a female seed grown from regular stock is far less likely to hermie although it can happen of course, if it endures enough stress!
However, when a plant grown from feminized seed throws male pollen sacs, this is a HERMIE, it is NOT a true male and it is caused by stress or bad genetics.
Bad genetics aside, the most common cause is light penetration during the dark phase, or a sudden shock to the plant can cause it, (I had one hermie in the last 2 weeks of flower when it touched the lamp due to height restrictions) Luckily, being so late in flower meant I got away with it!!
When you do get a hermie, your choices are to immediately bin it to avoid unwanted pollination of any other female plants, or, if it is your only plant, you will have to inspect those branches from top to bottom, daily, and remove all those balls as you find them and you will get some bud at the end, although it almost certainly will contain some seeds. You have to be very lucky to get every single one!! Trust me!! lol
Final point to make is, if you do end up with some seeds from a plant such as this, they would not be any good for planting as they will inherit the hermie trait and they most certainly should not be used for breeding!
I hope this helps new growers to understand the difference.
