Not had quite the poor experience with tradesmen you've just experienced, generally only call upon them for work I just don't have the specialist equipment for. Given a new UPVC back door few years back, fitted it myself although it did take significantly (all day) longer than a professional would have taken. Felt a huge sense of achievement having accomplished something years ago I'd never even consider. Give it a go with your internal doors, might surprise yourself.

Hmm so should be ok then, I know it would be a right pain in the arse to drill through the chimney up in the loft too..would need one of those special drill bits that go through brick and decent drill.

I agree with you, doing it yourself is 10x better in most cases, unless you severely mess it up, and I'd need to get some tools to get the job done too, maybe I could give it a whirl, I'll have a think about that.

Yeah I used to just have my fan up in the loft, and vent into the loft space, but can't for the life of me remember if it caused any moisture issues up there.

You can rent a drill and core bit for brick ona weekend deal or daily rate for £30 ..you do need a fit for purpose core drill as they have a clutch built in that will cut the power if the core bit digs in ,snap your wrists otherwise
