    Default Insulation

Been thinking about insulating the roof in the loft to try help control temps better. Had a quick look on b+q and found some jablite boards with a u rating of 0.038, will these be good enough or do i need something better?

Bit confused with it all tbf

That will be ok, U value is how much heat loss per square m, thats quite low

The boards have a lower u rating mate so provide better insulation. Plus theres the added bonus of not itching like a cnut after

Cheers mate, their premium boards rating is 0.03w/m²K but works out a lot more expensive

Found on google that new builds roofs have to be no higher than 0.15 so i guess any is better than nothing, im in an old council house so dunno if my rating would be higher or lower to start

No problem...dont forget to leave a 50mm airgap between insulation & tiles

Also, if you want a bit more U...after youve fitted the boards between the rafters, crossline them with 2x2 and do it again...

Cheers mate, rafters are only 50mm deep themselves so will be running batons horizontally and insulating over the top of them will use some ply over the top of it all then i think, or would you use plasterboard?

Dodgy old council houses...50mm rafters indeed

Personally I would use plasterboard and paint it with white vinyl silk, easier to work with, cheaper than ply and if you use the foil backed stuff, it gives an extra thermal/moisture barrier
