Evening all have used b&q verve the last few times for some autos, seems like good soil + dirt cheap but had loads of gnats. The local shop has some Plant magic soil supreme , will this be a good gnat free equivalent/alternative ? Already using PM old timer feed & am in a hard water area.

    thanks

Hi Dupe, unfortunately, I fear there are no bags of soil you can purchase that is guaranteed to be 100% bug-free, it's all down to chance and how wherever you purchased them from have stored them..you see those tiny air holes in all bags of soil?..all it takes is a few to fly in and lay some eggs.

Some brands have been found to be worse than others mind you, perhaps specifically more to do with the soil creation stage rather than bag stage?

Just my opinion though, others may not agree with me "

    Verve everytime, no questions!!
If you grow in bag soil in the UK and use anything else your either nuts or like burning ya money IMO.

I use it in my soil mixes and side my side performs as well if not better than the costly alternatives!!

Verve verve verve and if you cant gey verve.... Oh wait yeah that aint ever happening lol

Pmsl you guys crack me up worrying about every little bug

Literally have no B and Q near me so have never tried Verve but have used PM soil a few times,(including current grow,) have found it a little hot in the past but it is a really nice feeling soil compared to the canna terra that ive been using,if that makes sense? A little on the expensive side but if it does the job,im happy.

The run I've just finished up was with plant magic soil and old timers range of nutrients, I've absolutely no reason to not want to use it again, no issues whatsoever.
Haven't used verve so cannot comment on that

Knew I should have took a photo at bnq on Sunday
All their soils were propping up the flower planters with bugs flying all over the joint
The last bag I bought from bnq what was to be used indoors had a cut up carrier bag inside and what was best described as a broken georgian tea pot
No biggy just pick the shit out and plod on
Four days later under hps the grow cupboard and the adjacent bedroom was crawling in gnats
Pots slung, soil slung and sadly the seedlings slung
Lucky enough there's a big hydo store a few clicks away
Yes it's £12 as opposed to the fiver for the bnq "dirt "
But how much is neem and fly traps again
I've been using pm soil now for a few years and not had one infestation since (touching wood as I type this)
As opinions are like arseholes in that we all have one someone will be along shortly

I use Severn trent water and I wouldn't drink straight from the tap it bloody stinks, leave it to stand for a day and the smells gone and yeah the soil buffers it fine
