Default LED PC case growing with TheLastRebel

Hiya folks, I've been quiet over the summer as I decided not to try a grow due to the heat, but forecasts are looking friendlier now so I'm back at it.

I'm not sure if I want to do full diaries from now on, sometimes it doesn't feel like there's much to say from week to week, but I would like to keep track of what I've been up to and I know some of you guys are interested as well. There's only so many PC and other micro growers who stick at it sadly!

I figure setting myself up a thread in here means I can just update as and when, and if anyone wants to chat about my setup or micro growing in general this thread doesn't need to be about a specific plant. I'll get some setup pics in here over the next couple of days.

My last diary is linked in my sig, it was an RQS Quick One that did really well and gave me 33g of really nice buds. Not even close to half way through it yet so there's no rush for another plant but I was feeling the itch so ordered seeds recently. I've now got a seed in soil - this time an RQS Bluematic, so it'll be interesting to see how the different strain does.

I haven't made a lot of changes - I was planning on a lighting upgrade but haven't got round to it yet, all I've really done is modified a larger pot. I think it's something like 7-8 litres, definitely more than my last pot, without sacrificing any height.

I'm using a Plant!t soil, same as I've been using for regular gardening, with perlite added. Lower quality soil than last time so that may bite me but I didn't want to buy another bag! I'll be using Plagron nutes again, and other than that just a cheapie brand of mycos and a covering of diatomaceous earth (some bug issues outdoors recently that I don't want to bring in if I can avoid it!)

How I train the plant will depend on how it stretches - the last girl was really bushy and this strain I'd expect to be lankier but we'll see.

As far as a target for the grow, I suppose I'd like to hit something like 40g this time - I'm hoping the larger pot will help me get there, but time will tell!

Cheers Ice mate, good to have you on board.

Couple of pics from the archive dusted off here - one is my recent seed order with the Bluematics, as well as a Bubble Kush I kind of want to try next and a bunch of freebies, and then a few from my last grow to show what the space looks like. I don't want to do another essay about how I built the thing here because there's plenty of info elsewhere, but any questions by all means fire away.

In a nutshell the case is rubber lined for insulation, with a light trap/intake fan at the bottom pulling air from underneath, a pair of DIY carbon filters at the top with fans in a push-pull config to keep the airflow to noise ratio in my favour, one airflow fan inside and 6 Samsung Q-series LED strips powered at up to 34W from an external Mean Well driver - all the mains electrics are external to the case now for heat and peace of mind. I have all the fans hooked up to one PWM speed controller, which is normally kept on dead low but can go up if temps do, and temps and humidity are monitored with two cheapo probes inside connected to displays in the front of the case with the fan controller - it's a swing door case design so they're still hidden away.

Woot... my fav diaries are those in the micro grow category. Pulling up a beanbag mate.

It can be disheartening when it feels like you're talking to yourself in diaries, but you soon look back and appreciate your own efforts when comparing future grows to it.

Thanks Silk mate, it's more just not having much to say for me, other than occasional updates to track nute schedule etc it's a bit like "day (n+1), it's still a plant" trying to keep a diary! Different if you have a lot going on but with one small plant in soil with a simple training plan there's only so much you can talk about day to day!

And we're off, albeit with an early problem - the thick layer of diatomaceous earth might be brilliant for bugs but indoors it's not doing my throat much good and bearing that in mind I can't imagine the carbon filters are enjoying it much either. I think what I might do is cover it over with soil (I'll add another inch of soil once she grows up a bit anyway) and hope it does its job without giving me lung cancer in the process! As long as I keep a neem routine up then hopefully it'll be ok anyway.

Other than that, she looks happy and healthy so far and temps are ok so no major complaints.

Nice one thelastrebel, sending green mojo to the seedling

Yeah be careful with that diatomaceous earth mate, you might wanna just spray it down with some water (fine spray bottle)..so it won't kick up on you.
