HPS - as low as possible?

Hola talkers
Im running some autos right now and wondering if 600w hps @ 25-35cm is too low. I tried for 48 hours, no light burn, but not sure if it stalled the plants a bit comparing to the usual 40-50cm distance.. heat is controlled with portable ac, so looking for more light intensity.

Its week 3 flower.. 4-5 weeks to go.

Ideal distances in there mate i usually keep my 600W at around 18" which is about 45cm.

The chart says anywhere between 8" and 29" is ideal for light output, you just have to watch out for symptoms of heat stress

So to a more specific question.

Can a 600w hps slow down growth if positioned too low - without showing signs of stress? (Slow growth might be the only sign i got, but hard to tell in 48h)

All id say is try it and see mate ive always stuck to the general rule!

Just outta interest, why dya want it lower? If its for more penetration through the canopy, could you not open your girls up abit?

They are topped and mainlined.
Trying to get as much light as possible as long as they dont fill the entire space, to light my 1.2*1.2 tent with 600 hps evenly, bulb needs to be 40-50cm away... But girls only cover 50-60% so i wanted closer lights... Now its back @ 35cm, lets see.
