700 plants and stolen electricity yet he gets a suspended sentence just because he is old? A young lad would get five years and his life ruined for half that amount.

I think you are losing sight of the fact that cultivating cannabis is illegal. It would be the 'young lad' who would be responsible for ruining his own life....

I am definitely not, I have just walked about two miles to the grow shop as I worry about my car being recognised parked outside there.
The hypothetical young lad is definitely responsible for his crimes, no questioning that. The judge is responsible for handing out sentences based on his own faulty perceptions ie that young lad cannabis smokers are criminal scallies that need taking off the street whereas an elderly man can be forgiven as maybe he just got carried away with a hobby or a need for medicine or maybe the judge just relates to him as they are similar age.
I guess I'm trying to say that age shouldn't come in to it. Nor should gender, race, wealth etc.

But the original post is not an old/young thing, it's to do with mitigating circumstances (Personally I would have thrown the book at him.... but understand how easy it is for people to get carried away) - I notice that you use the term 'elderly', how old is he as the article doesn't mention it

Half this shit comes down to the flip of a coin lol, judge could have found out his mrs was gettin a ride off the gardener that morning or he could have got off with his mistress the night before and in a great mood
A reckon it was the latter that got this guy off with a suspended sentence.
