I run recirculating top feed. Lets say my plants are drinking 25 litres each day (175 litres each week).
I have a 200 litre top up tank with a ballcock valve topping up the system, which I fill with nutrient solution at a strength I will need for the following week which drip feeds the system. I make any adjustments to PH/EC in the main system.
My system EC in general stays steady and I only need to adjust the PH especially during early flower (usually I am getting PH drop)
I read that you should only top up with plain water but surely this would weaken the EC of the feed dramatically by the end of the week. I just don't get it
