Sounds like you need some mini humidity meters. They are really cheap. No need to burp unless humidity is too high. Once it stabilizes at a safe level you need to stop burping. Bovada humidipaks (58% or 62% depending on preference) are great for long term storage. Cvault storage containers are a bit pricey but are best for real long term storage. I have 3 year old weed that still smokes perfectly. So far 3 years is as long as it's been held before smoking but I image it would past much longer if stored correctly.
Never heard of storing in mylar so i cannot comment on that. When i used to purchase my weed it mostly came in double wrapped vacuum packed food plastic and i could still smell it through the plastic which implies it is not being stored correctly.

I stored some in food grade zip lock bags. Smokes ok after 2 years but all smell has gone. Same stuff in a jar has held up much better.

As long as the seals are good, some of the cheaper ones dont seal so well so you end up with bone dry bud...no need for a grinder I suppose
