    Default New HPS light question

    Evening all,

Looking at buying a new light as my old one died on the last grow. After doing some reading I am thinking of going for the Gavita Pro 600W EL / 400 Volt HPS Lamp, reviews seem good and its within my budget.

The one thing that is confusing me is that on the website its states

"This lamp is for use with a 400v ballast or complete fixture. Do not use it with a standard 230v ballast!"

My ballast is a "Omega Digi-Pro 600w Dimmable Digital Grow Light Ballast" so the question is will they be compatible together?

    Appreciate and advice

I'm not much on my elect, but 400V is A hell of A lot different than 400W I think. anyone on this subject? Here in the States, whe just have 110 and 220 V. My 1000 W runs on 110V. and all lower watts.

Go with HLG led lamps buddy if your going to reinvest. HPS and HID are obsolete energy hogs

I have been looking at those but to give me a decent coverage of my tent i will be looking at upwards of £1000 which is a little above my price atm. Appreciate your input though

You need a 400v high frequency ballast for a 400v bulb. Mains voltage is same

Its old obsolete technology but with a high price tag the 400v stuff unfortunately. Remember SuperVHS videos when DVDs came out?

Get 520w of HLG for much less than a grand mate.

By the time your hps bulb has blown, the leds will stand you at zero cost

    No brainer imho

Go for 3 x QB288 v2 kits by HLG. You might need 1 more kit if you run fully to the edges.

That would be the same as 2x 600 gavita and save you 50-100 a grow in energy bill
