    Default F'kin' Linux....

Swapped from win7 to Linux Mint today. It hasn't been too painful - bar the pain I inflicted on myself by losing all my passwords & email login for my thctalk ...

But! - A couple of things are still bugging me

    1) I can't get Wine to see a NAS drive
    2) 2nd monitor.... I run a 15" 2nd monitor in portrait mode... Linux only seems to give me default landscape... gotta be missing that somewhere!

...and what's with the really dire lack of real support for the big name VPNs? - No way do I do CLI these days! Last used on windows about 20 year ago! GUI FTW

Many reasons.... but most of them can be typified by asking the question of why you would need an account for an operating system....?

However, I can't say the way Windows is going is pleasing me. They're trying to be everything to everyone and it's killing their customer experience, they need to just accept that win 10 is crap on a small touch screen. Apple & Google have won the race.

Metro tiles? Who are they paying over £100k per year to think of stupid shit like this on a desktop?

But they are committed to making Windows 10 work & will spunk a lot of money at it... but it isn't for me

Once I figure out all the shit running, in the back ground, and got rid of them, and 10 works great for me now.

Plus I've always had a M$ operating system since they bundled in GEM (The precursor to windows) bar a few flirtations with Linux... but I always ended back on M$ for games... but I have a games consul now

My son had windows 10 and when I gave it a whirl..I hated it, not sure what the hell they were thinking..but I guess I'm in that 'old' category too now, where I don't like change either lol

So I've stayed on Windows 7 and loved it.

I really have to start thinking about what to use now that Microsoft has ended it's support.

I'm actually pretty clued up on this but even recommended fixes fail.... one of those daft things where you know exactly what you are trying to do, knowing exactly the way you want to do it.... just to find out that you've been doing it all wrong

If you're not using your computer for much aside from browsing, email, netflix etc a chromebook is nice and tidy. Otherwise I ran Ubuntu on a few machines and enjoyed it a lot.
