I read the dark period is supposed make the resin and terp profile more intense as light diminishes terps. Like your plants seem to smell the most just before lights on.

Theoretically it makes sense, but can't say IRL either way if that had helped, or if it might be strain dependent.
Yeah the dark period before harvest is definitely beneficial in that sence of the plants biology but surely more has to be going on in the dark period apart from movement of nutrients to the root zone.

I thought that was to do with the progressive shortening of the light hours, so dropping the light hours by a few minutes every day then increasing the increments, not a protracted total darkness tho.

I read on a diary here that an old member here left a male canna plant in his tent, deballing that so there is no breeding, but the females "know" that he is there and will chuck out more trichomes as they want to breed with him.

That is something I am playing with now but sorry, totally unrelated to your light/dark question.

Yeah I never really found anyh info on shortening of light hours but i do believe it's meant to crate a more uniform ripening of the flowers.

That's really interesting about that male plant left with the females and I well believe the theory behind it.

We all need to chip in on some lab equipment
