    Default Reverse osmosis systems

Hi Im looking at getting a ro water system for nxt grow
And was wondering if anyone had more of a clue to what sort of system I would need

Now I don't think I would need more than 50gpd
But theres like different stages which would be best suited to growing

    Many thanks

There are a few that have them... don't know if they get used that often though

I got this one last week and I’ve ran 120lit off it so far and go from a start TDS of 400 and finish with 3.

I had been paying £10 for 60lit at local garden centre which had TDS no lower than 30.

This was result from testing first batch thru the unit

IMO having a water source with a starting point of 0.0 can only be a good thing surely as it give you greater control of the feed strength as depending on the area you live you could have a start ec of .4 before you’ve added a ml of nutes.

I start with my base RO water and then add silicon, leave for a hour for silicon to dissolve and then as cal mag at 1ml per lit, then add my nutes, test ec, lower PH and serve...

I got this one used, with new membranes and a pump which is important as it would take forever without one for £50!!!

These have been fed using RO water from birth nutes delivered at a dosage as advised by the guys on here, this is current position week 8 veg..

Has using RO water been instrumental in this? I whole heartily believe so, can I prove it, no, will I use anything other than RO moving forwards, most definitely not.

Just my view, based on my experience to date..

I also agree and like using RO water. Saying that my water EC is high.

I run a 4 stage RO unit. 75 gpd. It makes 5lt in about 45 minutes. The ones on ebay are good. I used to use them on my reef tank which requires clean water to start with.

The ebay unit takes my EC from 0.6 to 0.

I forgot to mention.... what you remove from the water, in certain terms you have to replace.

So if money is tight, consider you will need to buffer all RO water with calmag before starting with anything else.

    YMMV.

I love the r/o systems. I have a culligan system in a 9 gallon bladder for the kitchen sink. Our water is terrible where I live. I also have a 30 gallon barrel that I use. I simply disconnect feom the small bladder and drop the line into the 30 gallon.

I drop a sump pump onto the barrel with a small garden hose and it makes watering a breeze. I also have 4 airstones in the 30 gallon barrel. The water is always highly oxygenated, and thats a huge help for the plants, they can never get enough oxygen...

It sure makes it alot easier for growing, but we do use this for all cooking too. Its the only water I'll allow my dogs to drink.

I've got to say this is the second post asking a question and I'm outstouded with the kind respones and great info I've received.

    So onto main topic
    My ec. 7
    Ph is around the same

Money isn't too much of an issue as what I will gain from better absorb tion of nutes and hopefully more yeild will pay for itself.

I've seen a used filter system with a pump for around the same price of 50 so may go for that will take another look today.

I'm currently only using around 15 ltrs a week on five plants in my flower chamber and 4ltrs in veg.
This may change as I'm looking at a nft 424 for the nxt grow too and that's 50ltrs on its own.

Bud_Wiser got it right. My plants grow much better when I start with RO water and build it properly like Bud does in that crucial order for proper mixing. Any basic 5 stage RO system will work. I fill 5 gallon jugs so I always have plenty on hand.

Love this thread already..this is the direction I'm personally heading, but thinking of just mixing the RO water with my tap water at a 50-50 ratio..I think I'll still have enough calcium in there for them LOL
