    Default Germination

It's me again. I'm germinating two autoflowering seeds with paper. The paper is always quite moist and I'm almost on the second day. The color of the seeds is getting darker, is this normal? Sorry, but it's my first time I do it alone: ??') a few years ago my boyfriend helped me and they were open after only 24 hours. I hope everything is fine, kisses.

Hi MiaoMiao welcome, you need a warm environment for germination. The best method I've found is to 3/4 fill a shit glass with water drop your seeds in and wait until they sink usually 12 -18 hours, place two paper towels on a plate, tip the shot glass onto the towel and fold towel over and under the seeds, place the towel in a zip top food bag and place in airing cupboard in the dark, make sure the bag has plenty of air in it before zipping up. Fresh seeds should only take a hours to a day to crack older seeds can take you to a week. hope this helps good luck

Welcome sister i use the paper towel method in a plastic food carton the type you get with takeaway meals, snap lid tightly closed wrap in a dark cloth and place on top of my sky box for a bit of gentle bottom heat, can take from overnight to 3/4 or more days but check each day, good luck girl G'.

I throw them in a cup of water and cover and put on water boiler, which has a warmish top. Wait for them to sprout then plant. Works.

I gave up on the paper towel method. It never worked for me like the photos!

For me, I found it easier to fill a shot glass with tap water. I have seen people use the plastic seed vials we all have kicking around for this bit.

Drop seed in. Leave out on the side (in my case hide them as Mrs J will know). I check at 12h, tap the glass. If the seed sinks, then it goes into the dirt, sideways, 1” down. The pots are prefilled and premoistend.

I use biodegradable pots - so for germ I use the very smallest ones. They sit happily on top of the sky box. I put the pots in a clear freezer bag.

When the seed pop up - upto 4-5 days, I then cut the base off and it goes into its final pot and into the tent. I take the bottom off to ensure the roots don’t get stuck before the pot has degraded away.

For me it’s straight in medium, the medium is dark and wet so will do same job, just less stress transplanting from towel to medium, they are just so delicate at that stage, lots of methods and I,m sure you’ll find out what works best for you, maybe try 1/2 1/2

What I do also is put a bit clingfilm over top of pot to keep heat and humidity , stops them drying out as they aren’t deep

I used the paper towel method without a problem for a few years then for whatever reason Id got a few strains that failed germination wanking away £30, now I drop them in water and wait until they sink then straight into the soil

Even with auto's I start them off in small cups now and they sit on an oil rad in the dark with high humidity

The airing or boiler room is a nice dark warm'ish place, if you're in a colder climate with heating on fairly regular. I have a combi boiler and that clicking on a few times a day is enough to keep the space warm.
