    Default PH strips/drops

Hi. I know I've got to get PH and ec pens but there's no point in buying the cheap ones of amazon or bay is there?

For PH I was thinking of getting the colour coded strip things until I could afford a decent pen. I wondered if anyone had any experience with them. The ec thing I might have to buy the cheap pen until I can afford better.

The more I read, the more important this is becoming.

Buy cheap buy twice. A good pen is about £20. The best EC pen is like £60.
IMHO don't waste your time or money. Just save and get a good pH pen then save and get a EC truncheon when yous can

Yea understand that, but I want to get going with the grow, time is important and I'm skint. The PH strips are £3, get decent reviews and do not need calibration. I'm thinking they will do until I can get a pen.

Unless someone tells me they're crap. I'm also thinking of using Volvic until I get sorted. Has a declared PH of 7 anyway.

Never gonna be as accurate as something digital. Surely you have a spare £20 laying around?

No they really will not do.

pH is a logarithmic scale, so accuracy is very important.

Thanks, that's all I needed to read.

I've just turned my place upside down and can't find my old PH meter. My wife walks in and finds it straight away.

It don't work so hoping it's the batteries. Gonna cost me £8 to find out. Might take a walk to pound shop.

You will need to find your calibration solutions.

Probably best to get the probe in some water to hydrate it for 24h.

    Good luck!

I bought the cheap yellow ph pen on e bay and my friend as the expensive 1 from the local grow shop. They both give the same reading out and he says he as to calibrate is at least once a week and says the cheaper one much better?
